I spent the weekend shopping for a new bed for my 16 year old daughter, furniture stores are fun for anyone. We shopped at 2 other local stores, one required a minimum purchase to receive 0% APR. I was not planning on spending that much. The other store had aggressive sales tactics and I felt the salesperson was not listening to our wants and needs.
Cale Bowman at HOM was a pleasure to shop with! He was knowledgeable about mattresses. He was warm and genuine and listened to our needs and wants. He doesn’t expect you to be anything but yourself!
Most noteable about our experience with Cale was toward the end of the quote set up, was that my teen really was trying to be more frugal than I. They wanted to talk about a lower quality guest mattress they said was comfortable. I shut her down pretty quick, and said no I want you to have a better quality mattress it is an investment in your health. My teenager was annoyed at being dismissed. Cale says, “let’s indulge her and take a look.” Reminding me that kids just want to be heard and have space to express themselves. I felt a sense of community from him in them at moment, and thinking about that felt really amazing and made me feel like HOM is indeed part of my community. Like he cared about us as people and saw us (me and two kids) as a family not just a sale to close.
They used to say that it takes a village to raise a child. I think many parents these days do not experience that. He gently redirected ME as a parent. And I don’t believe he has kids! He doesn’t even know the struggles we have been battling through recently as a family unit. I think he just genuinely wants to make the world a better place. Maybe I just needed that insight in the moment.
So we did not just buy a mattress set up from Cale at HOM, we had made a genuine connection and found our favorite local furniture outlet in the process. We will back in a few months for a new bed for my son as well. Thank you Cale! Salesmen like you are a breath...
Read moreThis is an update to my previous review (text of that review follows). I got a call from the store manager within 24 hours of my review being posted. He apologized for my experience, ordered a tree for me and asked me if I'd be willing to give them another chance to earn my business. He also offered a better deal than the original sale price. I picked the tree up the other day and it looks great. Thanks to Mitch and HOM for their customer service. I upgraded my review to 3 stars--I still think they need to work out some kinks in their business but I was impressed with their response. Had an awful experience. Went in to check out Christmas items on sale and decided to buy a tree. First, it took some time to find someone who could help me. Once that was accomplished, they spent a good deal of time trying to figure out their own system to determine if the tree was available. That was about 15 minutes! I was assured that it was available, paid for it and was told it would be in stock in a couple of days. I went back after about a week to pick it up. That’s when I experienced the delightful customer service of their “pick up”. The person could not find the tree nor could he even figure out what was going on. He needed to talk with someone else which resulted in a good wait of 15-20 minutes. I was then told that everything was taken care of and all was good and I could pick my tree up in a couple of days. But I get a call from the store the following day telling me that there was no tree available. To their credit, they did call me as soon as they discovered their error and credited my account. My guess is that the tree was never properly ordered that very first day that I thought I had purchased it.

The first time I wasn't greeted which didn't bother me but then when I was actually set on some things for purchase there was no one around to help. I ended up just walking out and going elsewhere because I had questions and needed help but didn't think I should go up to the front where employees were just chatting at the front counter if they want a sale then they have to sell right? Or interrupt the two employees who were just chatting about others in the back area where I was looking... Well this last time was a completely different experience BRUCE was amazing! He greeted us with a kind smile just a few moments after stepping in the door. I told him what I was in for he pointed me to the right direction and then after some looking around came to check. He offered coffee and cookies. Then after listening to what I was looking for while speaking to my family he came back and said I kind of think I have an idea of a set that would work for what you're looking for. If not we can continue to compare and he can help with that too. He was one of the BEST sales people I've ever dealt with! He was not pushy at all and just hit on every point. When I had questions Bruce was there, When I couldn't decide Bruce was there, While I was looking he stepped back, and then he made the sale simple and straight forward.
