A visit to Under the Roof, introduced me to Jonathan, one of floor representatives, who was a terrific guide through the 2 floors of very nice and diverse furniture at Under the Roof. More importantly, to me, there was no pressure and in fact Jonathan was very engaging, trying to learn about what I was looking for and why, and where it would go in our home and he was listening very carefully to all I said. Under the Roof offers a selection of manufacturers, all high quality and varied in price by the quality of the materials, i.e. the value of each piece is well reflected in the price of each product and very reasonably priced according to the value. By taking a true interest in me and what I was looking for, no time was wasted being directed to pieces that didn't fit my profile (no steering to the store's pieces they want to get rid of). I was there about an hour and over that time my discussions with Jonathan would be viewed as a conversation with a friend, not a sales presentation. He is a reflection of the high quality of the furniture in the store, and he had virtually complete knowledge of every piece, and you leave the store with both an appreciation of the furniture and a sense of trust about all that has been discussed. I returned with my wife 4 days later and we purchased one of the pieces that Jonathan and I had looked at and she left with the same sense of value and trust. Are they the cheapest store in the area, no, but certainly you get the best value I have found from Waynesboro to Harrisonburg (and online), so your money goes furthest and will leave feeling like you have made the best choice available with the help of someone who cares about you, not making a sale.
In my career, I have had the opportunity to build many sales teams, hiring people to sell products that ranged up to 7+ figures with 12 month or more sales cycles. Jonathan's approach to a client is exactly what I looked for when I was hiring and was a standard quality in my most successful sales people. Iāve wanted to replace my big, bulky, gray leather living room for something more colorful for a while. All the other stores carry are boring, āfarmhouseā styles and colors (which is ok, if you like that style), and when I walked through the door at UTR, I was met by an absolutely stunning orange, mid-century style chair!! I knew I was in the right place!! And while the hubs wouldnāt agree to the orange chair, I did purchase an amazing navy blue velvet sofa and a great IMG chair! Jonathan is a wonderful, patient soul who spent a lot of time with us, getting to know us, finding out what we like and donāt like, and just talking about a variety of things non-furniture related. We did splurge on the IMG chair, but because of the quality, we know it will be around for a very long time. I had looked for chairs at several other furniture stores in the nearby town where I live, but almost everything was overstuffed & too large for my living room. So I was pleased to see a good variety of traditional/modern, oversized/delicate, etc., here. Jonathan greeted me when I arrived, listened attentively as I explained what I wanted, and was knowledgeable not only about the inventory on the sales floor but then, while I looked around on my own (which I always prefer to being trailed by a salesperson), he took the initiative to see what else the store might have in its warehouse for quick delivery. Jonathan also provided excellent follow-up, including calling the morning of delivery to ensure I would be home and communicating my request back to the delivery team that I would welcome a call 1 hour prior to delivery versus the standard 30 minutes ahead, so I could leave the house and run a few quick errands.
