Town talk is by far my favorite grocery store, it’s always my favorite part of a grocery run. “Expiration” dates, in the United States those are only on the packaging because the FDA says manufacturers need them. The dates are arbitrary. Most items are good way past the date on the package. “Best by” literally means it will be best on that date, marinating, reacting and coming together. Occasionally I walk out empty handed when I’m not interested in the current stock, however the stock changes weekly. I can count the number of times I have walked out feeling guilty, like I robbed the place. I have literally bought 25 lb wheel of Asiago cheese from Italy for $40 at this store. It was rejected from local grocery stores because the exporter didn’t put an expectation date on the packaging. It was an aged hard cheese with the rind and vacuum packed, won’t go bad if kept cool, only age more and get better. Go once a week for a month or two, don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t strike your fancy on the first trip. Saturday morning has the best stock, but be prepared for a...
Read moreWe were so happy to have Town Talk open a location out here! We’ve been shopping with them for 10 years now. There is a bit of a learning curve to the treasure hunt that is Town Talk. If you find something you like, buy as much as you can. No guarantees it’ll be there when you got back, even if it’s later that day! Since they don’t really have a regular supply of most of what they stock, you can always expect something new and different. Some folks have knocked them for carrying close date or even some things past date, but in 9 years we’ve only had 1 thing that wasn’t good - a bag of frozen roasted vegetables that just tasted rough. Saturday is the day with the most produce available. If you’re a fan of yogurt, you will not find a better bargain than here. We’ve purchased cases of the finer brands of yogurt for the same price as a single tub at higher end grocery stores. Give them a shot, check it out and go...
Read moreMy husband and i stopped in for the first time today. This place is not going to be for everyone. There is no lying about that. If you are the kind of person that believes best by, expiration, and use by dates are all the same then I don't recommend going. If the ambiance of a grocery store is important to your shopping experience then this isnt the store for you. You will see alot of past dates but again go in knowing the difference of all stamps on products. You WILL find gems like others have said, items that are good for another 1-2 years and the produce they do have is GREAT. I also want to say the workers were nice and very informative. The only real negative i had was i did see some products that cost more then just going to a regular grocery store. We definitely will be going back and checking out the fort worth...
