I recently joined Taylor Biagi BJJ and my experience has been nothing short of fantastic. I came into the gym not knowing anybody, but making friends & forming relationships here comes easy, as everyone is welcoming & eager to help. I highly recommend joining Taylor Biagi BJJ for the following reasons:
First-and-foremost, Taylor is an expert in her craft. She is a high-level blackbelt training for 14+ years, & her credentials speak for itself. Moreover, Taylor has coached BJJ champions, & has even trained UFC fighters asking her to help prepare them for their upcoming fight. This exemplifies Taylor’s mastery of BJJ, as being asked for help by people at the top of their profession is the ultimate sign of respect.
Taylor is also an excellent teacher & effective communicator, which is a crucial characteristic for a Coach to possess, as having the knowledge but being able to effectively teach it are two distinct skills. Taylor has a unique ability to break down techniques in a way that is understandable & easy to digest. This is not only a testament to her expertise/leadership skills, but to her preparation. She goes above & beyond in her duties by taking notes, strategizing what to teach/the best way to teach it, & even provides step-by-step instructions on a whiteboard displayed in class which helps encompass all learning styles. Despite Taylor’s mastery of the sport, she continues to be a student of the game.
Taylor also provides a team of instructors that are very knowledgeable & diligent in their preparation. I have already learned a lot from Taylor, Rohan, & Spencer, as they each offer different perspectives & insights in their teachings, making your progression/understanding of the sport even more complete.
I would recommend this gym to anyone, no matter their goals. There are students who compete, train as hobby, or simply train for personal fitness purposes. Everyone is welcomed & is treated the same. I have been to several gyms in the Chicagoland area, but none compare to the experience i’ve had here. As such, I implore anyone hesitant on joining/picking a gym to do yourself a favor & give Taylor...
Read moreTaylor Biagi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great place for a wide variety of people—from if you’re interested in doing jiu jitsu as a hobby/to stay in shape, to if you are interested in competing in local + national tournaments!
There is a monthly curriculum plan that head instructors/black belts Taylor and Rohan teach in a clear and concise manner. Questions are encouraged, not admonished. They are world champions and make sure to emphasize techniques that are highly effective and relevant in jiu jitsu.
The upper belts that train here all foster a very inclusive and welcoming environment—there’s no superiority complex in the gym. Evening classes are offered at a convenient time and are highly focused on drilling and using positionals to obtain mastery of technique, about 2/3 of the lessons comprise of this.
I appreciate that the gym is also femme/female friendly—the bathrooms are stocked with hair ties and tampons which is an oversight at other places but not at a gym founded by a female black belt! The gym and mats are also cleaned constantly (after every class) which is big for me.
Being a part of the gym provides you with a lot of resources for you to improve your game and knowledge of jiu jitsu. Members have access to a private gym database of material and content all to learn jiu jitsu techniques if you wish to do so. There are competition specific classes offered 3x a week as well.
I started off as a complete martial arts novice and in a bit under a year developed the skillset to be able to compete in my first tournament!
TBJJ has a great environment—the coaches truly listen to feedback from students and implement it. I would recommend training here if you are interested...
