My adult daughter lives 2 blocks from this restaurant, and I used Google Maps to locate nearby restaurants serving weekday lunch. After seeing the customer-posted photos and 5 star reviews of Yuzu, I asked my daughter her thoughts on having lunch there. She immediately said, "Absolutely!" and proceeded to rave about Yuzu. Her descriptions didn't do this restaurant enough justice. It was even better than I was expecting! We were greeted immediately upon walking inside and promptly seated. Everything, including the bathrooms, were spotless. Yuzu has a large selection of wines, beers, and specialty cocktails, and a wonderful lunch menu. The stars of the lunchtime menu are the Bento boxes. I chose the "Nigiri/Sashimi and California Roll" Bento ($20), my daughter had the "Tempura" Bento ($18). Every Bento box comes with a very large bowl of Miso Soup (regular or spicy), a Spring mix salad with cucumber and grape tomatoes, two dumplings (best I've ever eaten..), and steamed edamame with a dusting of sea salt. My California Roll was fresh, delicious, and quite large (it had to be 8-9" before it was sliced). The roll also included Masago. My three pieces of Nigiri were very fresh with a substantial serving of Salmon, Tuna and Yellowtail. I am a big eater, but I could not finish half of my Miso soup and half of the steamed Edamame. The Roll was cut into 8 pieces, but I could only finish 3 pieces. My daughters Tempura was equally delicious. The batter was light and airy and included multiple pieces of shrimp, broccoli, sweet potato, and one or two other vegetables that, at the moment, escapes my mind. There had to be 8 or 9 large pieces of tempura, but she was only able to finish 1/3 to 1/2. I usually focus on the quality of the food and not on the quantity of food, but Yuzu is the exception as they had both. Everyone who lives/works within walking distance should stop by for one of their Bento box lunches... you'll be hooked! From the moment we walked inside, the service was outstanding. Our server was incredibly attentive but not at all intrusive. This place hits it out of park in all areas, and I'm excited to go back in a couple of days to enjoy...

If I could give less than 1 star I would. I am seriously disappointed with this place. After going there for the 1st time on June 10th to celebrate my dad's bday, because of a friend's recommendation, they not only didn't label any of the sushi so we had to figure out what was what from their menu before we could even eat, they forgot 1 whole roll. We spent over $200 at this place. We got a lot of food. Mind you, the only thing that was actually labeled were the appetizers, which wasn't even necessary because it was clear that the soup was soup and teriyaki chicken was chicken. What a joke. Upon finally figuring out what everything was, we realized they missed Born To Chill. What a shame. We live 45 min from them. And they closed in an hour so I called immediately and multiple times and of course no answer. Called again the next day explaining the situation and they said "a manager will call you." No one called. Called again the next day and they said the same thing. Still no call. So finally trying over a month later because they denied my bank from reversing the charge, how convenient, I called again. Finally the manage called me back. Sue. She when on to say that they checked my order multiple times blah blah blah and basically said I was lying but she'll issue me a voucher for the replacement of my missed sushi. I called again a few weeks later to finally pick up my sushi and she fights me again saying my order was checked multiple times and that now I need to make a purchase to get my already paid for roll! I insisted I will not spend one more dime there and I just want the roll I paid for. She fi ally conceded and I got my roll. Finally. 3 months later. This place is so u professionall and I will not be back. Oh and we've spread the word to friends and family about our experience. Really sad and a shame because their food is good! But we will...

Yuzu provides a feast to your eyes, taste buds and your tummy!

Was definitely attracted to come to this joint because of the ridiculously beautiful plating of the sushis, but am super happy that they matched the design with wonderfully fresh ingredients, mixture of textures, and explosion of flavors in the decorated sauce.

We ordered three yuzu jumbo sushi rolls with each costing around $17-19. Each came with different toppings, "Dragonball" had unagi, "Summer Breeze & Ocean" had seared ika (cuttlefish), and "Born to Chill" had salmon on top, but inside contains generous fillings as well. Therefore, with generous and fresh ingredients both inside and on top, the price is justified, not to mention you artistic touch!

Our favorite of the day was definitely "Summer Breeze & Ocean." The seared ika was absolutely divine. This much be absolutely fresh otherwise it would be soft and flat rather than firm and springy as it should be. Moreover, the ika was perfectly seared, with delicious tuna, creamy avocado, scallion and fried shallots inside provided it with a multiple layer of textures. Matched with the Thai seafood sauce, this was a perfect roll!

The Dragonball was no slouch too, but the design was the bomb! Absolutely eye catching and equally delicious. With salmon and shrimp tempura, matched with avocado, sweet soy sauce, and wasabi mayo, this is already a loaded roll. The decorated sauce provides it with a further punch, the colors provides creaminess, spiciness and sweetness, hence dragonball each mouthful!

Thanks for the great experience. Will definitely return, recommend friends and bring all out of town friends to boast Chicago's unique...

The sushi is a true artwork on a plate, and nothing is more satisfying than dragging a roll against the art. Yuzu Chicago is a FANTASTIC sushi restaurant. Yuzu has a great urban feel as soon as you walk in. I highly recommend reserving on Yelp, as the place does get busy fast! Me and my fiancee had spent the day looking at all the gorgeous art in the Art Institute of Chicago, and little did we know we had one more art exhibit to go to. We ordered the Takoyaki which was amazing. They had this tangy fried quality and bright acidity that just melted like a soft bass note against a choice guitar riff. Metaphors aside, the food is artfully thought of, and each dish on its own stood out as amazing. The short ribs were like meat candy on a stick, the bacon wrapped scallops were the perfect dance between tenderly soft and crunchy and rich. The sushi rolls, were out of this world. We ordered the spider roll, a classic, and had the coconut roll, which was a huge surprise how good it actually was! As far as the jumbo roll goes I had the Riverwalk. And I will continue to keep coming for that roll. It's everything I love about nigiri, in a roll. Three different fish, a touch of avocado and a dash of cilantro covered in tempura flakes and the spicy mayo was eye catching. I highly recommend this place and I would mark it high on places to eat sushi in Chicago. Go. Go now and bring your friends. Everyone loves the art of Chicago, now you can eat it!

Yuzu Sushi is an upscale sushi restaurant in West Town, Chicago that serves unique and quirky “sushi art” as part of its fare. I really enjoyed my meal here. Right off the bat, I will say that the restaurant gets very crowded, very quickly. In my opinion, this restaurant is too small for the amount of business it gets. (But maybe the small cozy vibe is part of the appeal? I’m not sure.) Overcrowdedness aside, the space itself was clean and well-organized, which I appreciated. The crowd meant we had to wait about 20–30 minutes for a table, but honestly, that wasn’t too bad for a Saturday night. The appetizers were good and the sushi was fresh, but the flavors were just not there for me. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t blow me away. It’s just good sushi with some nice art pieces on the side (made with various colored condiments and sauces). It’s clear that the sushi arts were designed more for social media than for eating. Regardless, the food wasn’t bad. The sushi rolls were pretty good (especially for the price), they just weren’t very memorable flavor-wise. Overall, did I enjoy it? Yes. Would I come back again? No. I got the cute photos I wanted, but there are other sushi restaurants in Chicago that serve better-tasting sushi rolls with less of a wait.
