We have made several purchases with this store and on November 11th placed an order for 2 chairs over $2200.00. Our designer Vicki handled the transaction and charged our credit card $1100 and assured us that the chairs would be here by Christmas. Then on December 7th we receive a call from the owner Susan Crosswhite who wanted our remaining balance of $1100. We call her back to state that we were told to pay for the chairs when they arrive in the store and she said we had to pay for them now coming from Norwalk, OH and we asked her why was the payment was needed now when we have no merchandise and we want to be sure that the chairs actually arrived with the fabric we selected. She was very rude to us and told us there was no way they would arrive by the holiday and she said that we had to have us come down to pay for them or they would not be delivered. We told her we were not happy coming down to the store but we did after our church service. She was so nasty on the phone that she was asked if she was always this way. She did not like it but told her that it was a shame our designer was out for a few weeks but we would be there to pay. When we arrived at the store, her husband Tom was there and immediately very defensive because his wife was upset. My husband handed him the credit card which he ran on the credit card machine for $1100 and then he called on on Monday, December 8th and said he was canceling the order and no chairs would be sold to us. He is very unprofessional and to think he has no corporate office to report too or ethics in how he deals with customers who have paid. He said that we would not be getting a refund and consumers should be aware how he treats paying customers and especially a mother with 2 sons in Afghanistan. He and his wife act like they are your best friends when you purchase and when we got upset at his wife in the way she spoke to us, he is punishing us. It is such a shame that we now have to contact the banks, Better Business Bureau and our attorney to get this resolved. So beware of this couple and if you are not careful, they will also take your money but you will never get your merchandise. We have even recorded the phone conversation showing how rude Susan was but as the owner it will never be admitted. So beware and find another design firm who will not rip you off with your deposit and act so childish. Maybe the Grinch would be a better way to describe them. But each time we placed orders with them, we paid half when ordered and paid when the merchandise arrived. But there are many other stores that will treat you well and value you as a customer. I've been to furniture stores from LA to New York and this is the best one I've ever worked with.
The trick is to work with the staff here and order the furniture that you actually want. They have a decent selection on the floor, but the real power of this place is to help you find exactly what you want and not just the closest thing that happens to be laying around. They seem to have an intuitive feel for the majority of the big furniture manufacturers and frequently recommend different brands based on what type of furniture you want, shipping times, cost etc.
When you do this you get access to a whole world of well made furniture at reasonable cost that you just won't find on the floors of many other places.
STAFF KNOWLEDGE & CUSTOMER SERVICE This place does away completely with the sadly de-facto furniture store experience of: Look around at whatever is on the floor. Get approached by a salesperson evidently doing their best imitation of the concierge from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Ask salesperson if the surface texture is stained wood or a veneer, and realize they have no idea but made up an answer anyway all while eagerly glancing over your shoulder at the couple that is looking to spend $4,500 on a pleather sofa that will start peeling in less than a year.
I don't believe the staff at Luxe make commissions, and yet they have some of the most knowledgeable people around. They don't use sales tactics or pressure you to buy something and they don't dodge questions.
VERY WIDE SELECTION (WHEN YOU ORDER THINGS) Do you want one of those executive desks from detective movies in the 1940s? Do you want matching bedroom furniture in an old cherry style? Do you want a real leather tufted bar chair that will last for a hundred years?
Well then good luck at the vast majority of furniture stores. Luxe is the only place I have found that can handle these kinds of requests.
