I'd like to give Foodtown 5 stars but, alas their customer service is nearly non-existent. Otherwise, I love the place! It's quite like a museum of international cuisine. Their produce department alone is the size of an entire Aldis market, because they carry stuff you won't see anywhere else. All types of Asian melons, tubers, herbs, mushrooms, leeks, you name it! The meat and frozen food departments are a revelation! You can buy everything from lamb brains to beef testicles. Oh, and there's a stack of lower cow legs on ice. Hooves, fur, and all! Lord knows what those are for! There's even a tank with live frogs, for frog's legs! And another with live crabs. And a third with live crayfish. Drinks and drink mixes you've never heard of. I could go on. I've seen people of all kinds in there - East Indian, Oriental, Carribean Islander, Muslim, et al! I've even seen Chinese takeout owners in there for supplies! Let's not forget the kitchen, which serves lunch and dinner from umpteen cultures. Interestingly, what I did not notice is the foul smell a lot of reviewers have commented on. Unless they simply don't like the smell of a fresh seafood market. Because, yes. That will be your first olfactory impression of the place. And, yes. The exterior, especially, is a bit raggedy. And in a sketchy area. Still, well worth the visit. I'll go back. Again, and again!

Foodtown is an experience. A neighbor recommended it when we were looking for ingredients to try an Asian dish, and we’ve been back twice since. Each visit feels like a mini adventure—eye-opening and fascinating. This might be the largest ethnic grocery store we’ve ever been to. The variety is incredible: produce from the Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. You’ll find items here that you probably can’t get anywhere else—many we have never even seen or heard of before. We especially love the fresh Asian greens and herbs. Finally, a place where baby bok choy is actually baby-sized, and where mint and basil come in generous bags instead of tiny bundles. The aisles are packed with sauces, rice, and noodles that could make your head spin. There’s also a wide selection of fish, meat, and animal parts you’d typically only find in wet markets abroad—definitely not your standard grocery store. While it’s not the cleanest m, cheapest or most customer-friendly place, it’s a fantastic resource if you are looking to cook authentic ethnic dishes.

Beware of large sized Snappers from this place! Recently purchased a large red snapper from Foodtown as I usually do monthly but my last purchase will be the very LAST TIME I purchase fish from Foodtown period! I paid a total of $47 and change for the 1 red snapper and it was sliced in 1 inch pieces as I requested. From the onset I realized that the fish slices seemed extra white, no residue of blood and no fish smell at all!!!! This peeked my attention so I retrieved some of the same red snapper that I had purchased before from Foodtown from my freezer and the difference was very telling!! Very pink and still smelled like fish that came from the ocean. Needless to say I returned it immediately. I don’t know what this white piece of thing is - it looks like fish, shaped like fish, it’s white, odorless, spongy, and fell apart at every touch. This is DEFINITELY NOT wild caught red snapper as indicated in their labeling. So disgusting!!! BEWARE!!!!!

Ever since I found Food Town I shop with anticipation, excited to explore new foods and ethnic goods. The selection and variety is like none other and I enjoy myself. My only complaint is in reference to the staff, I enter with a happy friendly demeanor and get no such feedback, or response. It's like the people here are cold, they only say what is necessary. I asked for help finding something the woman pointed in a general direction saying nothing to me. When I needed my blue crabs weighed and tagged, I took a number 3 digits off the currant one, then waited about 25 or 30 minutes, not because the customers before me had complicated orders but because of poor work ethic. The staff was slow moving and expressed a sort of loathing for there tasks. A gentleman that assisted me spoke so softly I could hardly hear him, When he walked away from me to take another order I said "could I have my crabs back please" and with an attitude he told me "I wanted them cleaned" I smiled and said "no that's ok I can do it, and his response was almost angry saying "he had asked me if I wanted them cleaned and I had said yes," So I apologize and replied "I must not have understood you properly."

His poor attitude seems to be a trend amongst employes here. Because on my last visit I waited at customer service for an item behind the counter for quite some time as staff walked past me, when the young lady finally came to retrieve my item she just handed it to me then told me to go wait in line pointing to the main cashers. So I did. Then the girl that rung me up let me all but complete my transaction, when I was pulling out my debit card she canceled the sale and informed me I had to spend over 5 dollars to get cash back, I looked up and my purchase was 20 cents off, (I new the canceled transaction would make me incur a fee of 1.75) but I smiled and grabbed a piece of candy saying "is that enough" but the single piece on candy was only 15. cents so she said "nope" with her arms crossed. so I grabbed another. I'm not resentful of her need to enforce the policy that I understand. I’m more disheartened at the manor in which she conducted herself, it was her body language, and tone of voice.

Customer service is what sets a business apart, and what keeps a business going strong. A smile goes a long way, and face to face interaction can impact someone's whole day. So why not make...

Foodtown has great produce, average prices, fresh seafood, meat and chicken, they cater to many international clients, unfortunately the experience they provide is among the worse ever for a modern supermarket. Starting from the dirty parking lot with very few handicap spaces and unproperly marked, no electric carts for handicapped patrons, they used to have 3, then 2 now only 1 that doesn't work and has been put of order for at least a couple of months, this shows how much they care for disabled patrons, cashiers that take forever to scan items and move the lines efficiently, who talk too much to the customers that happen to speak either creole, or spanish, or english for that matter, creating big lines at the registers, the seafood department only has 1 person taking orders while 6 or 7 do the cleaning and filleting creating friction among those who are waiting what seems forever for your number to be called for service, and the inevitable moochers who try to get service without a number or those who leave and then come back with a number that was called but never answered, a complete mess, similarly wirh the butcher department although at least there are 2 people there taking orders. Go there at your own risk, prepare to spend way more time that is needed, a chaotic experience if there ever was one, they take advantage of ethnic people who must go there because they have a great assortment of ethnic foods, yet eventually people will realize that providing good service and experience is equally important, somethingbthat Foodtown...

Food Variety- 5 stars. Customer service experience maybe a 2.5- 3 star... Ease of finding items- 3.8 Stars.

They have everything you need (especially if you're from another country or area). They never disappoint with the grocery selection. When I go inside to get one item, I leave the store with 20 because every area I pass that has something sentimental and reminds me of home (Jamaica), I grab it.

The environment could use some touch up- it's not the easiest to find certain items so you may have to take your time & that's okay. The staff is not the warmest or friendliest so customer service could be worked on a bit. The employees pass you up & down- they do not greet you or say hello. No one offers to help. They gossip & talk with each other instead of giving the customers any attention (at least in my case).

Overall- I go there when I'm not in a hurry & I take the time to shop for what I need until I find it without having to ask the employees for help (since they never offer to help even when they are right next to you & when you ask for help- they say what you see is what we have- so no help given regardless). Since they have the most variety of products for me, I continue to shop here- and invite my family and friends also- and everyone absolutely loves the selection of items they have. On top of that, I was referred here my a friend from Nicaragua.

So share the love & food selection with your loved ones- they will be happy they visited. Just don't be too hasty and spend some time looking for...
