I brought a velvet dress that I want to wear as a guest to a wedding in to be altered. The seamstress was very nice and friendly. The dress had to be taken in on both sides. It was already a size too large and I've lost some extra weight. Instead of cutting the extra material away on the sides, it was left and a new seam was made. So, the side seams are bulky. And on the one side, it's not smooth. Instead, it bunches. I spent $59 on the alterations and another $10 to have the dress steamed. When I went back to try the dress on the first time, the seamstress and I both agreed she had to extend the alterations all the way down the sides (she hadn't done this). I was already on edge because I found the owner to be less than friendly. Out of no where she was telling me the dress looked fine as-is, and she was ready to pack me off. However, the seamstress told me to come back later after she fixed the dress. A couple hours later, I went back and the seamstress was ready to hand me the dress, and send me on my way. Ah, no...I wanted to try it on. The seamstress had taken the sides in all the way down both sides like she said she'd do, but I felt like I had wads of fabric rolled up on either side of me. I contemplated saying something, but it was very busy in the shop and I didn't think I'd get anywhere with the owner there. What needed to happen was the seams needed to be taken out, the extra fabric cut away and the seams sown again. In the end, I said nothing, took the dress and left. I'm very very disappointed, to the point where I don't want to wear this brand new dress that I fell in love with when I saw it in the store.
My sister is a seamstress, well known for her costume designs and alterations. She lives quite a distance away. I sent her a video and photos of the dress and asked if the alterations were done correctly. She confirmed my doubts. It was done wrong. So, now I'm going to drive up to see her so she can fix it. I just hope the velvet isn't ruined on the one side.
I've seen great reviews and know folks who've gone to Maridadi Couture. Sadly, I won't be going back. $69 down the drain on alterations. And the dress is a Calvin Klein that I got on...
Read moreDo not recommend. The week before my wedding I went to pick up my dress and it was clearly carelessly smushed in their racks inbetween my fittings. The structure of the top was destroyed and I had to point it out as unacceptable. The hem of the outter skirt was also unfinished. After 30 minutes of me feeling like I had to convince the seamstress of everything that was wrong I left in tears. A bride should not have to tell a seamstress what is or is not acceptable quality on their wedding dress. I had to take off another morning of work to go back days later to pick up the dress. Everything was corrected and we were told we did not have to pay for the additional work that was done to fix their mistakes, but no further discount was provided. Coincidentally, other things I had been asking to be fixed the entire time they had my dress and had been told numerous times were impossible to fix, it was just the dress, were fixed that day as well. Clearly it was fixable, they just didn’t want to put in the time to do it. I was tripping in my dress the entire day of my wedding becuase the inner layers were not hemmed correctly. All around do not recommend. I hope with their efforts to take in less clients they can actually give the attention they need to( the attention I paid for and did not get) on current and...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place for how close it is and how they were able to fit me into their schedule. I paid $118 to have my bridesmaids dress hemmed at the bottom and brought in at the sides. When I returned two weeks later the dress barley fit on me- they made adjustments and I was told to come back the following day. After doing that I told them it was still tight, I was told that it looked great- it's probably too tight because it's humid outside and not to eat any salty foods until the event. When I went to pay I was asked if I was "sure I didn't want it altered any more" at that point I was just mind boggled that I'm spending all this money to come in with a dress that was too big and now completely too small. I told her "I guess as long as I can squeeze into the dress" and again was told that it was too tight because it was humid. Seriously mind boggling to know a customers dissatisfaction and to do...
