I don’t eat pizza regularly, but when I do, it’s got to be the best imo! The last thing I want is some soggy greasy pizza that was a waste of my taste buds and my waistline. Simply put, it’s gotta be the best!
So this past summer, I went on a quest to find the best pizza in Exton. I bought one slice of plain with mushrooms (since that’s my favorite) at all the different pizza shops in the area (and two outside the area). While most were pretty good, and some not so good, the one that stood out as the best and pulled me back for more was Fontanas.
That slice was different than all the rest. While the others were good, they were all very similar. Lots of cheese grease on top, which can be yummy for some but so much that you have to blot it off and it runs in with the sauce making things slide. And the crust, that’s the dealbreaker for me. Most of those crusts were floppy because the heaviness of the cheese and oil made them bend that way. But not the slice I had at Fontanas! The crust stayed crispy, delicious and upright. The cheese was melted nicely and was the actual color of cheese. The mushrooms were even delicious. I think they were marinated or precooked to give them a little bit of flavor so everything as a whole was just so darn delicious. And there was no need to blot any excess oil off of the top.
I have since returned to Fontana‘s and I’ve ordered a fresh pizza right out of the oven and same thing, crust is crisp and hardy yet thin with no sag (how do they do that?!) the cheese melts perfectly every time and all the flavors just work right together.
The owner there is great too, such a nice man with a passion for cooking and his family who was helping the last time we were there—so sweet!
So all this to say, if you’re looking for the best pizza in Exton, this is it. In my opinion anyway. And they have a cute little section for eating in. I always thought it was just a place for take out but it’s actually pretty with a painted mural on the wall. Nice atmosphere, nice people, great pizza! So glad we...
Read moreMy husband and I came here with the intent of just grabbing a slice to taste test. We just moved to the area and have been on the hunt for the best pizza in town, and once we came here (after trying a few other places), we knew we found it. The atmosphere was the type of classic pizza restaurant that we know and love. The staff was so kind and chatted with us, making the experience a little more personal which we enjoyed. Once we saw the slices, they looked so good that we decided to order an entire pizza. They are incredibly well priced competitively and more delish than any of the other pizza shops around Exton. We went with half plain and half chicken & green pepper. We got the cheese stuffed crust and have genuinely never had better stuffed crust. It wasn’t overdone, burnt, or falling out due to poor production. It was perfect. We also got the garlic knots which were heaven. For such a low price, they came with around 10 knots - big ones that are about the size of a croissant. All freshly made and delish. Lastly, we got the mozzarella sticks. (We regrettably got too excited and ate them all before getting a photo). These can go either way depending on where you go, and can sometimes be so disappointing. However, these were perfect as well with a nice crispy outside and squishy, pull-a-part cheesy center. The cheese was the kind that you could wrap around in circles and extend a whole foot before it breaks. Not the chunky kind that bends and breaks.
10/10 atmosphere, staff, and food. This is a home run and we will be ordering only from here now that we’ve found our Exton...
