I moved to KC and had low expectations for my hair since I’m from out of town and I know not a lot of people can work with Asian hair. I tried to be very flexible about what I want. I asked for an ash brown balayage. I even said warm brown would have been okay if the bleach didn’t turn out too light. I have bleached my hair many times in LA and have never had a problem going from black dye to some thing close to ash brown in one session. I came in with brassy hair and came out with even more brassy hair. I didn’t want orange/red/auburn hair. Three of my friends were surprised I paid for a balayage because it looks like reddish orange streaks in my hair. This is nothing near what I wanted. I know my hair very well- it normally lifts much much better than what she bleached my hair to, regardless of previous dye color. I am disappointed with the tone of my hair and with the service from both the stylist, Madison, and the owner, Hollie. They recommend I lighten again which would have been another $240+ or make it darker which defeats the point of a balayage. I expected to come out a warm brunette, not auburn. I tried to convince myself to like my hair because I did not receive what I asked for nor what I paid money for. In the end, I hate the color of my hair. I do not feel cared for. I understand they wanted to keep my hair healthy but I wanted results. I felt rushed half way through my appointment since Madison was doing another clients hair while doing my hair. I came in with an open mind and was willing to be lenient with the results, but I am just disappointed and embarrassed and wasted so much money.

Christine is my go to person for my regular haircut/color. She’s knowledgeable and so sweet. I know that anytime I leave her chair I’m going to LOVE my hair. Sometimes I show her pictures of what I like/want but I really just trust her expertise because she is a true professional and always makes my hair look better than I could’ve imagined or picked out from a random IG photo. I love that I never feel pressure to buy products…though I usually do buy them because they smell great and have made my hair feel/look so healthy! I also love the passion she puts into her work. It is easy to see Christine loves what she does and is always striving to be the best and to learn as much as she can through her professional development. I think that’s true for the entire staff at Session Salon. The owner, Hollie, has truly fostered what appears to be a positive, supportive, and fun work environment with professionals who love what they do.

I moved to Kansas City last year and was recommended to go to Session by a friend. I started going to Madison Jacobs, and I could not be happier with the look and feeling of my hair since! Madison is a super talented stylist and is very personable. The flexibility in her schedule makes it easy for someone like myself that works full-time, which I greatly appreciate. Her skills in Balayage are unmatched to other stylists! So glad to have found Madison, as I have her to thank for how confident and beautiful I feel each time I get my hair done!

If you’re wanting to know if this salon works with Black or natural hair, the answer is no. After doing some research, I reached out to inquire about this shops services. I communicated with one of their staff members the day before to try to prepare properly for an appointment. Before booking, I asked specifically if they had a stylist that works with natural hair for a simple wash and blow dry. My profile picture also shows that I’m women of color. I was told yes, and then booked an appointment for the next morning. I showed up after having driven for 25 minutes to be told that there was a misunderstanding and that the person booking didn’t know what natural hair meant when I asked during booking. They said they would not be able to do my hair, turning me away with really no solutions, help or resolve. This was a very disappointing experience, shops should be trained to service different hair textures or at least be knowledgeable in consultation and booking to be able to answer questions correctly and not waste people’s time and gas with no compensation. I was booked with Tayen, by staff member Scottie. This was a little more than just a misunderstanding, it’s a mistake made from a lack of cultural and hair knowledge...
