Nestled in an unassuming building at the unassuming intersection of 44th and Field Street (right in front of Anderson Park), this gem is like the Narnia for makers (minus the talking lions but definitely with the magic).
A Wheat Ridge nonprofit called Localworks (along with some critical help from the City) started Clear Creek Makerspace as an outlet for locals to create community, projects, art, and hopefully a few new local businesses. Its clear that Localworks spent many hundreds of thousands of dollars renovating the 7,500sf facility and added enough (mostly brand new) tools and equipment to build (or take apart) practically anything you can think of.
They have areas for 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Woodworking, Metalworking/Welding, Electronics, Textiles, and much more. I was interested in the CAD classes and 4'x8' CNC machine capable of carving custom designs in a full sheet of plywood, so I pulled the trigger on joining. My standard monthly membership to CCM is less than half of what I pay per month for a group fitness membership (they also have corporate, volunteer, student, and other membership types if I recall correctly). Now have 24/7 access to an engaging community of makers and training for and ability to use some very unique and expensive tools (that I could otherwise neither afford or fit in my garage).
