This past Friday (around 11), my daughter and her long-time boyfriend (who are both high school seniors) were having some prom photos taken by the flower boxes as you walk toward the store (about a foot or two off the sidewalk by the old Evans Music building). There was a sandwich sign board for the candy store, so we moved it about 3 feet to take the photos (and of course planned on moving it back when we left). We were there less than 5 minutes--maybe even less.
As the photographer started taking photos, the store owner marched out, rudely walked right in front of me (clearly invading my personal space and intentionally interrupting the photo shoot), and moved his sign back (a whopping 3 feet). We were all stunned. I explained to him that we were almost done, and he barked at me "This is private property!" (which I should note is not at all obvious because there is a secondary winding sidewalk which leads off the main "public" sidewalk). There is no way to tell that it's "private" property, but I digress. Keep in mind, my daughter and her boyfriend were literally 1-2 feet off of the "public" sidewalk. He marched off in a huff and our jaws were all on the floor. There was no logical explanation for his reaction. Had he come out and politely said something like "Hey, not sure if you know this, but this is actually private property and you aren't allowed to take photos here" (or something to that effect), we would have been apologetic and would have left. His over-the-top behavior to a young couple taking prom photos was WAY out of line.
I can only imagine that maybe he had a bad experience with prom when he was young, because I have never seen such grinchy behavior! And to think someone who owns a candy store would act like that! These are good kids who don't get in trouble, are outstanding students, and give back to the community...not some hooligans trying to be destructive. I don't know what this guy's problem was but just WOW.
I had always wanted to visit this store because I heard it was really cute, but I will never give that grinchy man a dime of my money! He was just mean and rude and it totally ruined the vibe for the rest of the photos because we were all so shocked at his behavior. Rude, rude, rude...this was a young couple in love simply trying to shoot a few photos. He needs to take a...
Read moreIt's actually really nice -if you can get there when it's open. The hours of operation are short and seem to change at random. I would like to purchase something my wife liked when we first happened across it just exploring town, and by sheer good fortune it was open, but since then...
Drive out after work, oh, it closed a few minutes ago. Get out earlier another day, oh it's closed all day that day. Check hours of operation, it's actually closed over half the week, short hours on the weekends and Friday. Can't make it that weekend; OK, I'll go next weekend. Double check hours today before leaving (thank goodness) and now it says it's closed weekends, open wed-fri. 🤦♂️
It looks like I'll have to order online. This is what you get for trying to support small...
Read moreWe happened upon this gorgeous and yummy candy store while shopping in White Bear Lake! What a charming place this is! Upon entering your eyes are treated to the most gorgeous candies and if you're like my husband and I you'll want to taste one of everything! We were greeted by Christi who we later learned was the owner of this newly opened gem. Her enthusiasm for her new store is amazing and we stayed much longer just to visit with her. And most of all the candy is unique.... Not just your ordinary candy store and the candy is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I would highly recommend stopping here! I wish we had bought more candy to bring home! Pat...
