I participated in the Hot Glass Encounter and it was fantastic!!
I arrived 30 minutes early to check in (recommend 15 mins prior) at the register and my payment was taken and a small form filled out, which is used to track my piece from inception to final cooling.
I had the 3:30 PM slot and I was the only one in that session, it was like a personal experience. I was introduced to Karen and Gina (I hope I remembered that correctly), and both were so personable and friendly and very open to answering all my questions.
At first I selected two colors for my piece, which was a small bowl with a wavy rim. Once I selected I was taken over to the furnace and introduced to the tools and the techniques that will be used as well as the safety protocols.
Two molten layers of glass were taken from the furnace and than rolled in my selected glass chips which were in a metal bowl nearby. It went back into the furnace and I rolled the handling tool until all the color chips were melted and it was time to come out.
I was moved to a seat and a set of tools that would be used to form or mold my molten glass into its general shape. It was amazing to watch it start to grow and shape right in front of me just by rolling the handling tool and a set of calipers.
Next was to insert air into the molten glass to expand it all while keeping it rolling and moving. I was given a tube with a disposable mouth piece and given directions on when and how to blow.
When the shape was perfect, we started to form and shape the wavy rim by holding it upside down and spinning the handling tool.
Once just about done, we moved to the table to add the bowl pedestal.
The whole experience was about 30 minutes but it was super fun and the pro’s talked me through each step and even let me stay a few extra minutes and ask some questions and see some other glass making options.
Unfortunately, if you are attending solo, you won’t be able to get any pics or videos because you are hands-on and have to keep moving with that hot glass.
The store it fantastic with all sorts of glass pieces and stained glass work. Such beautiful work from very talented artists.
I can’t say enough about the experience with the four people that worked there that I interfaced with, all super nice and will to chat.

Read moreMy family was there this morning in order to make small momentos using my dad's ashes. It's something so all of the kids and grandkids could have a piece of him with us always. What a wonderful experience honestly. I was a little apprehensive going into it not knowing what to expect but well worth it. During the process we were able to listen to a playlist made with all of the songs that reminded us of my dad. The 2 young women helping us were not only kind and extremely knowledgeable but they knew how to handle our family during this occasion. It was a great experience for us all and I really commend this company for being able to handle such a delicate occasion...
