Iāve had many experiences at this location and I have given many opportunities to have my frustrations addressed/rectified. Right before thanksgiving I had severe tooth pain from a broken wisdom tooth that sent me to the ER two times. After endless tries, I was able to get in to see Dr.Burden about extractions. ( all four wisdom teeth and a previously broken pre molar). It was recommended that I find an oral surgeon as I would need sedation. After mentioning multiple times to office staff, the dr as well as his dental assistant for the procedure Stephanie, I was told sedation was unnecessary. I should have been a better advocate for myself really because I have severe dental anxiety and of course things went wrong. I could feel the broken wisdom tooth being removed, as well as the pressure and discomfort of the broken premolar. It took them 2.5 hours to extract my teeth while I was awake and coherent, they gave me nitrous but the mask was never placed correctly on my nose for the procedure so I wasted my time and my money. I was told before leaving that my sinus cavity had a hole. It was made to believe that it was no big deal.. moving forward, more pain from the premolar site as well as airflow and water leakage. They used I believe to be a membrane to close the hole and sent me on my way with no communication as to what I should expect. I was made to feel like a drug addict multiple times by the dental assistant I mentioned above, as someone who has studied in the medical field, Iām fully aware that high blood pressure indicates your patient is in pain, and for weeks I was battling that. I ended up with the worst sinus infection Iāve ever experienced as well as multiple rounds of antibiotics, including one that I have previously been allergic to.
Flash forward to today, I scheduled a recommended appointment with them for a cleaning against my better judgement for January 18th. I received a text message asking me to move my appointment to this week with very little time to accommodate my schedule, I made it work and showed up today. Mind you, this is just a typical cleaning to get me started on the thing that need to be done moving forward.. I was there for an hour where I was presented with an 8,000+ bill for a deep cleaning I didnāt ask for and left without having anything done.
This establishment is money hungry, uncommunicative and extremely unprofessional in the way they handle business. I will be taking my business elsewhere but felt it was my civil duty to warn any future clients of the potential outcomes of their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is my third visit to this dentist, and theyāve consistently messed up my appointments and bills. Since day one, Jaidyn - coordinator has been rude, both in tone, choice of words and facial expressions. Itās frustrating that they donāt properly document everything from previous visits. During my last visit, someone (Iām not sure of her name) told me that todayās cleaning (2/28) would cost around $200 for a regular cleaning. Now I find out itās actually a deep cleaning. Why didnāt they clarify this was a deep cleaning and not a regular one? Additionally, theyāre asking me to pay over $300 for a filling from a past visit, despite already paying for five cavities. They also messed up a filling I wasnāt aware of until my last visit. They didnāt finish filling four cavities from previous visits, and now Iām being told I have two more cavities that need filling. How did this happen? According to the DA, they made an error. Now I have to come back for more fillings? It feels like theyāre overcharging me too. I donāt have any issues with the DAs, but the administration is terrible. Thereās poor communication between the clinical staff and the office, and the clinical notes are incorrect according to the DA I spoke with. During my last visit, they tried to charge me an additional $300 to $400 for a filling that was supposedly already done. I paid in advance for that! They were supposed to finish my fillings on the same day, but they didnāt. My advice is be careful when booking your appointmentāmake sure to check your treatment plan to avoid double charges. This is just an initial review as Iām still waiting for my last treatment. By the way, Dr. Q was great! She was the one who informed me during my last visit that I still had two fillings left. She filled one that day and scheduled the last one for today. She fixed the errors that were made..However, I checked in around 2:15 pm and am still waiting. Itās now 3:30 pm, and theyāve messed up my schedule again. This is just initial review Iām still waiting for my last treatment. To Dr. James, this is just my opinion,Jayden role as coordinator I donāt think sheās fit on this role. Since I donāt see the sympathy...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am furious and extremely disappointed with James A. Burden, D.D.S. & Associates of Williamsburg, VA for their complete lack of transparency and professionalism. Hereās what happened:
I scheduled my appointment well in advance and provided my insurance information, and I was assured by their staff that they accepted my insurance. Not once did they disclose that they were actually out of network! During my visit, I was told my balance was fully covered except for a fluoride treatment, which I paid for right there. I even received a receipt stating āPatient Portion: $0.00.ā
Then, a month later, I received a bill for almost $400, supposedly for routine X-rays and cleanings for myself and my spouse. These charges should have been mostly covered by my insurance. When I called the office, they casually mentioned they were āout of network,ā meaning I was on the hook for all these extra costs. This critical information was conveniently withheld from me upfront!
Despite multiple calls and messages left for the office manager, I have yet to receive a single response. Itās clear theyāre dodging accountability and hoping Iāll just quietly pay these surprise charges.
I am canceling all future appointments and will be reporting James A. Burden, D.D.S. & Associates to the State Attorney Generalās Office, state dental board, my insurance, and the Better Business Bureau for their deceptive billing practices. This is not how healthcare should be conducted. If you value transparency and honesty, do not go to this dental office. They clearly prioritize profits over their patientsā well-being and trust.
*A follow up on my last review
Smiles of Williamsburg resolved this issue and I am happy that they were able to waive the charges. However, I will not be returning to this dentist as they are...
