My mother was shopping here earlier this evening (04/09) and while an older man was ringing her up- he was making some highly inappropriate and unnecessary comments and giving ridiculous unsolicited advice. Some of the comments were as follows- "I lost a lot of weight by eating one meal a day. Want to hear more?" And making comments about the amount of carbs in each product as well as "tsk tsk"ing after scanning some of the items. She was buying items to make enchiladas as well as beer/wine for my brother's birthday party. After ringing up the items (and after making comments about how she should go with low carb tortillas instead of regular) he said she would certainly gain weight with that sort of meal.
My mind is blown. How disgusting and rude. My mother did not deserve that- no one does. Idea of the day! Train your employees to maybe... not fat shame someone who is simply trying to buy ingredients to make her son's favorite meal for his birthday? Or how about not fat shame ANYONE at all. Here is a fun fact- it is quite easy to keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice...
Read moreBest bakery out of all the Food Lions in town. The staff there is always friendly, helpful, and seem generally happy to be there. I go there for all my groceries because I can trust them to have quality products and if they don't have exactly what you need (due to demand) they have so many lovely alternatives. That's coming from someone who strictly adheres to their list and products, this food lion serves my very particular shopping styles. They always seem to have the freshest fruits, veggies, meats, cheese, prepared foods, desserts, and pastries/breads. I used to not like food lion because I had been spoiled with Norges Farm Fresh, but this Food Lion, stands to the same level as the once great Farm Fresh, known for it's quality and local service. In some ways I kind of see it as Farm Fresh now, because it far surpasses any Food Lion I've been to, both in product and people who work there. Good job guys! You're the bread and butter for the burg to me, and without you.. I'd be very unhappy with my croissants. Much love!! -Your loyal local...
Read moreI find the employees extremely helpful and conscientious about their work. I know they are targeting a specific customer base, but I wish they could have some higher-end products available. I was a loyal "Martin's customer, and they were able to offer staples at a decent price, but they also had specific specialty items that were also available to a customer who was looking to entertain and/or make that "special" presentation. I find myself at Trader Joe's whenever I want to make something "dinner-party" ready. Publix is WAY over-priced, and I think that if Food Lion took that extra step, they could bring in a more sophisticated, discerning shopper. I have catered dinner/cocktail parties for over 30 years, both here in Williamsburg & New Jersey, and I know that I can shop for staples at Food Lion, but I have to visit Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter, or Fresh Market for anything out of...
