Habitat for Humanity is just a place for wealthy bougie people to trade around used furniture and feel less guilt about their overarching position in life. I bought my last piece of furniture here today because I've had my eye on it for over a month and it's just been sitting there-- no one else was ever interested in it. One time when I looked at it, it was literally bunched between other furniture because that's how little attention anyone was paying it. I looked around at other places trying to find something else at a more reasonable price to no avail. I may like the piece of furniture for the space it is going to occupy, but I know that a spray painted piece of junk that I'm going to have to repaint myself isn't worth the price tag they put on it- I'm not even suggesting it should have been "cheap", I just think nearly $100 was steep for something that was obviously poorly spray painted and that maybe $50-$60 (considering the size and build of the furniture) would have been a more legitimately fair price. I often see furniture well over price there. I've seen furniture from corporate retail selling more than it retails for at those corporate retail stores. I understand that Habitat for Humanity has a mission statement, but I do think it's a little senseless to not keep fair value in mind. I really am coming to grips with the fact that they don't keep that value in mind because their target demographic is wealthier people who don't have to keep fair cost in mind because money means less to them than it does to the rest of us. I often avoid going there for a couple of years at a time and then I think, "maybe it has changed" and I give it another chance. Back in 2010 they had a different location, and shopping there was such a wonderful experience that I often cling to, and I always hope I can recapture those moments. Since they relocated, they have over the years changed their customer demographic so much that I've been...
Read moreMy issue was with one staff person, I believe get name was Penny. There were boxes of donated cabinets and I was interested in purchasing some. There were no pictures on boxes or signs regarding cabinets so I went to the counter for help. I was given drawings of the completed cabinets. My mother and I were discussing the cabinets and Penny explained that there were no base cabinets left but could buy vanity base cabinets, pull them forward and the space in back would be covered by the countertop. We walk around and think about it, and I decide to buy. Another young lady was at the counter, and Penny walks up and says You "Girls" find everything- I instantly stopped listening since my mother is over 70 and I'm almost 50. Penny may need some sensitivity training, but we're in the South so I'm guessing it's acceptable. And yes I heard other interactions where she did not call any of them "Girls". I purchased the vanity bases and continued to look around. While going to put Sold stickers, an older couple started asking me questions about cabinets. Though I didn't work there I explained to the couple what boxes held what, and that there were no base cabinets...but there were. A stack of them. I go to the front and ask Penny about the bases and she said yes they're blind bases meaning that they're missing the side. For what I needed that would have worked. Penny walks away from me, and the lady behind the counter is looking confused. So I got stuck with counters that I didn't need to buy since there's...
Read moreWe come into this restore and the one on Peter's Creek every two weeks. We buy things that families in the community need for their homes and just don't have the funds for. Closet doors, flooring (due to damage) sheets, furniture....you name it! The Peter's creek location always knows who we are and help us with our outreach list. Today is the last time we will be going to the coliseum location unfortunately. It's always the same employee with the blonde long hair that either hates her job or just hates anything that breathes or has a pulse because you can actually hear her saying very unnecessary and cruel remarks. Since we were 2 of 3 people actually in the store, it's very apparent when you're asking a question about how much a rug is and she's rolling her eyes then goes to find a fellow coworker to ask if someone else can come help us so she doesn't start laughing. The 128.40 will be the last money I spend there which is a Shame because it's for such a circle of life feel good cause. If you don't believe in the genuineness of the establishment you're representing then move on. BTW the cat scratching post you have sitting next to the lighting area you have marked as 45 dollars they have the same one at Goodwill for 6 and brand new on...
