I registered for the summer special - family membership for $99. The summer membership is listed as June 19 - Sept 1, but what is not made clear is the fact that the facility closes for a full week beginning August 23 until Sept. 2. So we basically don't get our final opportunities to swim and use the facility. The membership should have been listed from June 19 - August 23. Then at least I would have been informed and could decided for myself if that was worth is. As it stands, unless you go daily, or at least 3 or 4 times a week, it's not worth it. Lastly, today I encountered a very annoying lifeguard - large girl in a red swim suit. For the first half hour my kids were able to swim and have fun and race back and forth in the deep end. Then, when she came on shift, she seems my 2 girls walking over to the deep end to jump in and she stops them saying they have to be tested to swim in the deep in. The previous lifeguard didn't say anything. He could see that they could swim and he just let them have fun - not to mention the fact that it's the last day or two before the facility closes for a week. She decides to force the policy and make them jump through some hoops to swim in the deep end, then when I told my son to forget it, after she claims he did it wrong a couple of times, she spend the rest of the time we were there watching there every move and basically blowing her whistle at everything they did, which was nothing but trying to have a little fun in the shallow in just horsing around. Don't know if it was our brown skin or if she was just having a bad day, but our last day of our summer special (which I didn't even realize was our last day until I got...
Read moreThis place is a JOKE! I’ve noticed now why there isn’t many members going to this gym. For one the hours are not accommodating for most people, Pool hours are not suitable for individuals as well. They barely have enough life guards on hand to keep the pools hours open enough. They have a million and one excuses when you call about private swim lessons on why they stopped it. “Thats one of the reasons”There is None and I mean absolutely No activities for families who have kids! No individual classes for people who like Zumba, Aerobics, Yoga etc! Then on top of that there charging individuals $30 to join when there is absolutely nothing to offer. When you can go to gym that suits your needs better and offers more for yourself and if you have a family. Where you won’t have to pay an unbelievable joiners fee and get the quality that you need. So my personal opinion the YMCA is not it! Choose Wisely...
Read moreMy daughter takes swim lessons at the YMCA in Woodbury and due to my work schedule my husband was taking her. The management at the YMCA refused to open the door to the pool to let my husband take my daughter in to the pool area and instead made my husband walk my 5 year old daughter through the men's locker room. There are times when men are changing in there. When he asked if they could let them use the door they refused and when he asked for a refund he was told he can submit a request but there is no guarantee we will get a refund. I did not think unlocking a door for he and my daughter to enter and then locking it back was an unreasonable request. This is how the YMCA treats paying customers and cares about the exposure of a little girl to grown men changing. I changed my work schedule so I could take her to complete the swim lessons we paid for, but that will be...
