I like this facility of LA / Esporta fitness. I've kept the same rate since they were called Bally total fitness. I feel that the cleanliness of the Oak lawn location, such their upkeep on the facility being stocked as well as clean is is very low. Things I speak of are as such the locker rooms and the hand/sanitizer wipes around the workout area is very poor. The locker room is always wet with water all over the floor and counters and even near the toilets/urinals.
I don't know what some of the male members do, but they're always seems to be hair on the toilets or the urinals It doesn't always look like hair from the top of your head if you know what I mean. I noticed most of the time members don't clean up after themselves. I walked into the locker room one time and by the sink there was blood from maybe someone shaving but who knows. Whoever the member or guest was, they did not clean it up. The staff was told and it felt like it took them an hour to at least clean it up. This isn't the first facility under this brand that I've been to that I have experienced that or even looks like that with the hair on and around the counter or the toilet / urinal area.
I used to go to LA fitness in Alsip,IL until they closed due to not renewing their lease for whatever reason. It was a two floor and very spacious facility. It had great customer service and the people working the desk were excellent. They had great equipment and enough for people to use if it was quote unquote the busy season or the busy period of the day. The Alsip location's upkeep with hand sanitizer, paper towels/toilet paper and most of all the cleaning of the locker rooms and the workout area was great. If a member / guest notice something out of the ordinary being empty or unkepped, the staff when notified would take care of it in a timely fashion. I know things can't be perfect but things in any facility that you work out in or frequent should be up to some kind of standard to make people want to join and be returning customers. That goes for all businesses and gym locations. Places need to be up to health standards so people don't get sick, injured so businesses stay open.
The only reason I would give the Alsip facility a low rating is because they had way too many thefts in their locker rooms. This makes people in any gym environment, now have to carry their bags with them, leave things in their car or not even want to be a member or frequent that location at all.
Overall, I will say that the oaklawn LA Fitness/ Esporta hours we're a little bit longer not much compared to my old location. If they were still open I would frequent the Alsip location even though it's a little bit further from me. I would have to say depending on traffic / weather it was about another 6 - 7 minutes. I would like to go to the Oak lawn LA fitness on 95th right by Amazon fresh but that one due to closing of many facilities and being new seems to be more crowded at all times of the day. I'm not the only one who has noticed this but they seem to have less squat bars/strength training equipment and more cardio. When dealing with staff which I haven't done often I've noticed them to be great to answer questions and to help you out. The facility is clean in the workout area as well as the locker room. I noticed the few times I've been there that they have been clean and...
Read moreI'm only here for the pool, sauna and hot tub. Aside from these things, Planet Fitness I believe is a much better gym in terms of having a better environment and cleanliness. And also a better sense of community.
Some people come do their thing, workout, don't talk much to others, cool. That's me. I acknowledge and greet staff and others in passing, practicing general courtesy. But that's about it. But at Planet Fitness I feel others that come in pairs to work out, or regulars that come and work out and see some other regulars, and being able to converse with a welcome and friendly staff creates a great quality community.........at Planet Fitness.
No so much here, in my opinion. Staff is nonchalant. I've heard them more so bickering over whose turn it is to sign someone up, rather than actually doing anything else. When not signing someone up or they're usually head down in a phone or talking to another coworker.
Another comparison to Planet Fitness, cleanliness. I always saw employees at PF tiding up here or there, in the different sections and in the bathrooms. Here, I could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing the same attention to tidiness.
Another note on the culture and community here: I'm 34, and I listen to my headphones on full blast. I don't listen to anything on my phone without headphones in a public place like this. For whatever reason, here many people do. It's mostly guys, probably in their early to mid 20's and even younger. But goodness, in the locker room, in the bathroom and even in the workout areas at various times throughout the day guys will just have their music playing, have a conversation loudly or on speaker, or watch videos with the volume up. To sum it up, the level of respect is different at Planet. You didn't have it nearly to this level. And I was a regular of the Planet Fitness in Lansing when I went there. But even the planet Fitness down the street in Ford City doesn't have this same type of culture. There's more respect. (apologies this was a bit of a rant, I'm a huge advocate of common courtesy and respect in public).
Overall, it's convenient. I will save that I much prefer the treadmills here than the treadmills of most of the other Planet Fitness though. They seem bigger and I can take longer strides and run in my toes without feeling I'm going to fall off or run...
Read moreI have nothing good to say about this club and I highly suggest against anybody joining here, for reasons I will list below.
First, and most importantly, my privacy and that of my fiancé were violated when an employee pulled up our membership information solely to solicit my fiancé for something HIGHLY inappropriate (use your imaginations). This woman (I assume it was a woman) pulled our telephone number and solicited my fiancé late on a Sunday night. This is not only highly appropriate, but I consider it a HUGE violation of privacy and I believe this speaks volumes for LA Fitness as a company. I feel very violated and disturbed by this and it was the last straw for this club in my eyes.
Secondly, the quality of the gym is mediocre at best. I've been counting the weeks now that one of the calf machines has been broken (consequently one of my favorite machines)--I'm up to three weeks count on that. It doesn't look like it'll be fixed anytime soon.
Weights? All over the place, and in some cases, nowhere near the weight section. Paper towel and cleaning solution dispensers? Most are missing, and the remaining ones are empty most of the time I'm there. Employees start shutting off lights up to ten minutes prior to closing--highly unsafe and, frankly, rude.
Speaking of closing times: employees will give you the stink eye if you come in any later than two hours prior to closing and make sure to rudely remind everybody that they're closing soon. We're talking coming onto the speaker and telling people, usually up to thirty minutes before closing, that they better finish their workouts now because they want to go home. Yeah, we get it, and respect that you want to go home, but the rudeness displayed here is just completely mind boggling. They also lock the doors up to an hour -- yes, an hour -- prior to close.
I do not recommend coming to this gym, especially since the employees are so extremely rude and (in at least one case)...
