Where do I start? I’ll just start with the pleasant. The girls at the front end serving the food were great! But that’s as far as it goes. I proceeded to order my food (4 people), and sat down at an open table. We sat at an open table to await our food but decided to move to another table to be closer to the window. After sitting there for about five minutes or so, we quickly noticed the table was broken, and so we decided to move back to the original table. I promptly told the girls at the counter that the table was broken and so the owner came out to remove the table right then and there. Which was great. Now please remember this is my first time patronizing this establishment, but I quickly recognized the woman who had come out to remove the table was indeed the owner. I knew that because she had a nice photo of herself on the wall. So I flashed her a smile, said hello and then asked her if she was the woman in the photo. She simply replied with in the most unwelcoming tone ‘yeah that’s me’. She said it with no warmth, no smile, no anything. Just as quickly as she said that she was off to speak to another customer who had just walked in. Now I would not have given it a single thought, but considering my initial plans were to compliment her on having a nice place in area— of course I refrained from said compliments. Now remember I hadn’t received my order yet, as I still was waiting for it to come up. Finally the food was up and I was excitedly anticipating on enjoying my meal down to the last bite. Only that wasn’t the case. I ordered four meals—three fried chicken white meals with 2 sides, one fried chicken meal (6 wings) with two sides and a side of dressing with gravy which totaled $100.59 A but pricey but such is life. Now the dressing had a nice taste but it was a bit too salty for my liking. The Mac and cheese was ok and so was my drink: which, by the way, was tea mixed with koolaid. Now what made the meal unacceptable and what ultimately made me write this review, was the chicken. It was seasoned but was it saturated in oil! It was almost as if I was eating seasoned Crisco. Now I thoroughly understand that fried chicken isn’t the best for you, but we all deserve a cheat day, right. Even still, the chicken I was served today was grossly disgraceful. I was so disappointed because after all the meal was pricey and I expected more. Lastly, I am a sweet potato lover through and through. I’m not sure if this establishment is serving sweet potatoes from the can or what, but they had a hard outer layer which suggested they were poured from a can soaked over time in sweet syrup. I’m not sure but they were also grossly unacceptable. All in all I give this place two stars. Again, the customer service was great from the front workers, however, I won’t be returning as I didn’t feel welcomed by the owner and the...
Read moreIn short: Friendly staff, welcoming environment, wonderful history, large portions, great fish, so-so sides…and we love a Black Owned Business!!!!!!!!!
In long: The food is on display so you can see exactly what you’re getting to better make your decision. Only suggestion is that they label the dishes because a couple of the meats were hard to discern from first glance. Of course the staff was happy to answer any questions.
They serve the platters with wax paper to keep the food from running into multiple sections and clearly label each plate to reduce confusion. Very organized process!!
Hubby and I ordered fried fish platters. I got catfish and he ordered perch. Great seasoning, crunch and healthy sized fillets! The food was piping hot with great sized portions. I’m a foodie and not much of a sharer (only child syndrome 😅) but we deffffinitely could have shared our platter and still had leftovers.
The greens were standard and the hot sauce elevated them. That hot sauce was a highlight of my meal for sure!
The mac and cheese was the super ooey-gooey extra long cheese pull kind. I’m a dairy lover, but it was waaaaaay too much cheese for me. My stomach was on tumble dry afterwards 🤣
The yams were not cooked all the way through and had that unexpected firm center that makes you not want to continue after the first bite, so we were a bit bummed, but the staff welcomed our feedback and received it with humility! They were thankful that we gave them a try during our short trip.
There are photos of all the places the founder has catered, big community feel and great to see her success all around. Keep doing ya...
Read moreMy family was looking for a place to have a repast after our mothers funeral service 04 Nov 23. A friend recommended Passion Eats a black own business. My sister and I made and appointment and spoke with Shawanda. We explained that we try and support black owned businesses, however in the past, we have had issues with some of the businesses we've supported, thus leaving us skeptical about using another black owned business. We were assured by Shawanda, there would be no issues with using the catering and banquet facility. Unfortunately, this was not true. The banquet facility was newly remodeled and very nice. However, the food (specifically the Mac & Cheese) was so salty that our 60 guest were unable to eat it. When a staff member was informed about this mishap, they immediately apologized and stated that a new cook prepared the food. The staff member offer to replace the mac & cheese with additional chicken. By this time the guest and myself had lost our appetites. I and my sister left several messages via voicemail and staff for Shawanda to call us regarding the issue with the mac & cheese. As of this date 04 Jan 24, we have not heard from this establishment. Unfortunately this is another example of trying to support a black owned business and expecting to receive the common courtesy of a phone call and or an apology for not holding up their end of an expensive contact. Until I hear from the owner, who could change my opinion of this establishment, I would not recommend this place for...
