I recently spent 2 months in Zimbabwe and was lucky enough to go an multiple whitewater rafting trips with Shockwave Adventures - ranging from half day trips right up to the full 5 day experience. I cannot explain my gratitude to every last member of staff at this company which is the smallest on the river but packs a serious punch in terms of professionalism, safety, fun and an African welcome as warm as the weather was!! The River itself is an absolute monster, easily one of the best rafting rivers anywhere on the planet with everything from class 2 -5.The water is warm and deep so falling out of the raft is not a problem - all of the necessary safetly precautions have been taken, from full personal protection equipment, informative safety brief, safety kayakers and some of the best whitewater guides the world has to offer (as a raft guide myself i was completely in awe!!). From the top of the river (right under the falls) to the end of the trip the guides were informative, direct and hilarious. Aside from the actual white water, every trip was catered for with fantastic food and a range of cold drinks which are well deserved after the days rafting. On the 5 day trips we were treated to 3 great meals each day, snacks and water and all the necessary camping equipment to make this trip an absolute pleasure. What could be better than finishing a raft trip through the 4th largest river in Africa than with a cold beer by the camp fire and some of the clearest skies you could hope to see? (maybe some singing if youre lucky!) Transport to and from hotels is always punctual, clean and efficient -this company has the whole package. I would also like to note that during my time in Vic falls i learned that Shockwave Adventures is the ONLY company on the Zambezi river to be owned and operated by an African - Philani Moyo who was born and bred in Vic falls and an early pioneer of the commercial whitewater industry so you know that the money you spend with shockwaves is going to stay in Voctoria falls where it belongs! - he has a keen eye for guides and has trained many of the african guides you see on the water in various companies. He has a keen eye for talent and has hand picked some of the most talented and humble professionals, only selecting a few in order to keep a tightly run ship. I'd like to express my thanks to Philani Moyo and his team - Silent, J.B, Snake, Tabs, OG, Zee, Terrence, Bornwell, Edwin and everyone else that made this trip possible and one that i wont forget in a hurry! If i ever return, rafting with another company simply wont...
Read moreOne of the best experiences of our life!! We booked this adventure through TripAdvisor and had the time of our lives! The team: Terrance the guider , jb the safety man, kufisto the video guy, Morton and tawanda the helpers on the boat. The men made the trip better than expected. This was our group’s first time white water rafting and we were a little nervous considering we knew there were 4 and 5 rated rapids. Terrance took his time explain all of the possible situations to ensure our safety which was very appreciated and practiced before we set off. The Zambezi river scenery was beautiful! All of the rapids were thoroughly enjoyable as we had smiles on our faces the whole time. We only hit one category 5 and what an experience! Had a 50/50 chance of flipping and boy did we lol! Bc of the training none of us freaked out as the rapid was definitely strong but within 5-10 seconds we were out and safe! Glad we experienced all the different categories and we would never have this type of opportunity in the US. One of the men in our group doesn’t even know how to swim and felt safe with the company. I would recommend this company over and over. Can’t wait to come...
Read moreThis crew was absolutely fantastic. We are a family used to staging our own wilderness whitewater trips on our own rafts here in the PNW, USA, so wondered what our experience would be like. Our family of 4 (ages 50, 52, 17 and 13) all adored our guides, felt completely safe and well cared for. The Zambezi is an incredible river to spend time on and not to be missed before the dam goes in downstream of the falls in the next few years. We saw other companies on the water that day; none of them had as great a guide-to-client ratio, top notch gear-including rafts, kayaks, wetsuits, paddles, helmets, life vests. They were highly skilled at running whitewater--we speak from experience--and they were truly a joy to be around. They also did an incredible job of arranging our Victoria Falls lodging, which was first rate, a gorgeous and fun sunset wildlife cruise, as well as a tour of Victoria Falls and our roadtrip to next door Botswana, in addition to our daytrip on the Zambezi. Can't recommend them highly enough. Allow them to plan your whole trip in the area and you won't be...
