Perfect location in the historic center of Berat. The hotel is a group of old houses with typical decoration.|We stayed in a room located in the so-called museum. Typical decor. Bed not very comfortable, but pleasant. Good bathroom. Windows with fabulous views of the river and the other bank of Berat.|Please note that access to these rooms is via a steep slope. Difficult to carry luggage. If you have difficulty getting around, do not stay in these rooms.|Street parking, with only 3 reserved spaces. If you don't arrive early, parking will be a big problem.|The reception is in the restaurant. Good welcome. Friendly guy who showed us the parking spaces and accompanied us to the room carrying part of the luggage.|Typical breakfast from the region. It's a plate with typical Berat products. Not very common. A little different from the usual Western breakfasts.|The location is perfect. Close to all the attractions of this beautiful city. Read moreHotel Ansel is in the oldest building in Berat (allegedly), and the rooms are super clean, well appointed, and the bathrooms are modern, with terrific water pressure and fixtures. But the real distinguisher here is the VERY nice staff! And the breakfast is possibly the best I had in Albania, in a room looking across the river at the sort of view you see on postcards. Also? This is a town on a pretty steep hill...if you're walking it, don't foolishly get a place in the castle you'll have to climb to at the end of a long day! Get Ansel at the bottom of the hill, easy parking, and? Amazing access to the wide, flat stone walking promenade that for MY money doesn't get the credit it deserves as a town treasure because it is new. It is just SO pleasant to walk along the river from Anselm and along the promenade. My ONLY caveat!: If you have ANY mobility issues, stay around the corner at Megullieme (SP?)...Anselm is built into the hill and you can't even get to reception without climbing a set of steep stairs, and more to the gorgeous, sound-proofed rooms (with amazing mattresses and pillows, BTW). So be...
Read moreLovely designed hotel facing the view of a thousand windows. Large and clean room. Excellent breakfast. High and difficult stairs to climb, no elevator. The place is not suitable for people with disabilities. When we arrived, dozens of bags of construction products were standing on the side of the garden. At 5:30 in the morning, a terrible noise started. They lowered the dozens of bags from the height to the street on a slide, each time a bag shattered noisily onto the street. Unbearable. How audacious to rent rooms, at a high price, and wake the guests with a terrible noise. The hotel is undergoing massive renovations, keep that in mind if you book a room. You will not have peace and sleep! After the hotel staff's response, I still believe that massive renovations are taking place within the hotel, even if not on the exterior walls, and that anyone who books a room, like we did, and endured, will not...
