Confiserié La Ideal is more than just a café; it's a cherished piece of Buenos Aires history. Nestled in a building with over a century of stories within its walls, this establishment offers an experience that transcends time. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by an ambiance that blends old-world charm with a touch of elegance. The food is nothing short of spectacular, with a wide array of dishes that highlight the rich culinary traditions of Argentina. Whether you're indulging in a savory meal or a sweet treat, each bite is a testament to the skill and passion that goes into every dish. What truly sets La Ideal apart is its tea and “masitas” – small, delicate pastries that are simply irresistible. These bite-sized delights, paired with a perfectly brewed tea, are enough to make you a regular visitor. The authenticity and quality of the offerings reflect the café's deep-rooted place in the cultural fabric of Buenos Aires. For both locals and tourists alike, Confiserié La Ideal is more than just a stop for food; it's a journey into the heart of the city's storied past, where every visit feels like stepping back in time.

I'm usually skeptical about very touristy places, but I decided to try this place as several locals highly recommended. Sure, the ambience is beautiful!! I went for breakfast around 9 am when it was fairly empty. Chose the combo breakfast which included churros, among other things. When the breakfast arrived at my table, I was told there were no churros, and they replaced it with something else. Why couldn't they tell me this when I ordered? Churros were the reason I chose that combo!! The toast was cold! The butter was hard and cold. The caramel spread was hard and cold!! Imagine trying to make these things work, nothing spread! I initially hesitated, but given how much they were charging, I had to tell the waitress about it, and she offered to replace the toast. Coffee was nice. The Croissant too. Paying 18$ for this felt like a rip-off! Maybe I was the odd unlucky one, but when they charge exorbitantly, they have to be consistently good!

We had high hopes for Confitería Ideal in Buenos Aires, but our experience was a nightmare due to the terrible customer service.

For the most part, the staff tried to accommodate us in discussion with our tour guide, but one staff member, AYELEN, ruined the entire experience. We were offered a round table backed into a rectangular table and weren’t permitted to move it to allow more room. It was a small, cramped space clearly unfit for six people.

When we politely asked to be reseated to a more comfortable area, Ayelen shoved all six chairs into the tiny space without regard for comfort or personal space, insisting with an attitude that the tiny space was “perfectly fine.”The chairs were so close together that one could barely move, let alone sit comfortably. The way she treated us was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and frankly, disrespectful - completely soured our experience. A person like her should not work in customer service. Her attitude was completely unacceptable. The rest of the staff tried to accommodate us, but the damage was done.

For decent service, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. Confitería Ideal may have a good reputation, but with staff like Ayelen,...

Our tour guide recommended this elegant restaurant. It has been around since 1912. There's plenty on the menu. I saw tea service for around $36 USD and includes sandwiches and pastries. I ordered a chickpea burger. It's a bit dry. But the fries are delicious. The serving is generous. I ate half. The waiter Carlos packed my leftovers separately. I had plans to give the fries to someone begging on the street. There's lots of poverty in Argentina. I didn't get a cloth napkin. Carlos explained they're reserved for diners who order plates, not sandwiches. What? My burger was around $15 USD. I wanted to pay with dollars. Many businesses are longing for dollars. Well they don't take them. So I charged my food in pesos. He didn't show me the machine to add tip. He says they don't take tip in machine because it's complicated, so I gave him cash. La Ideal is a beautiful place. I was too full to have a coffee or pastry. Perhaps if I have time, I will...
