We went to this restaurant for dinner with the awareness that La Mar is ranked among the top 50 restaurants in the world. We didn’t have a reservation but the restaurant manager Christian Marquez was very kind to give us a prime table of 4 in the open area. The ambience of the place is really good. The bar kiosk in the middle enhance the aesthetic appeal of the place. Our waiters Ms Rosio Sejas and Joaquin Duarte did their job extremely well inspite of full occupancy and intense pressure. We ordered some cocktails which were outstanding. We ordered two varieties of sushis. But they were quite disappointing. The accompaniment of ginger and wasabi were conspicuous by their absence. Instead they gave a sweet sauce. A sweet sauce ? Are you sure ? Yes sweet sauce which we did not touch and ate the sushis with soya sauce. Sushis didn’t taste good and I think they were experimenting with some innovation in sushi and twisted out of shape. Sushi gets 3/10. We also ordered anticuche of fish which was outstanding ( 7/10). In main course we ordered Catch of the day ( grilled fish 1.3 kilos ). It tasted good but in the name of accompaniments there was only baked potatoes which were dry like a bone. There was nothing else to accompany the grilled fish which was a big disappointment. While going inside to use the restroom, I noticed that inside area was devoid of any decent furnishing and it looked like a run down place. Thanks to open kitchen and open lavatory doors on the 1st floor, it had strange smell of food and urine mixed together. Thank God we are sitting outside, I thought. It was a warm night ans at 11pm we were sweating under the clothes. There was no breeze. The management would do well to provide some pedestal fans for air circulation. ( they cost nothing much ). I think the reputation of this restaurant has run ahead of the intrinsic value. Advice to fellow travelers : You may visit but please lower your...
Read moreOh. La Mar. The only place in Buenos Aires where I've felt myself humiliated.
I've waited too long to leave this review but I have to warn you and I'm feeling guilty for not doing it earlier.
We were sitting outside and while the weather was pleasant the atmosphere in the patio was tense for some reason.
We've waited for the waiter for 20 minutes and they ignored all my questions during this time. The waiters were arrogant and rude. The fact I speak both English and Spanish makes it even worse because I never speak Spanish in public and remain undercover. Estos bastardos merezen una buena paliza. They have no paper menu available from the beginning and only after a 5 minutes discussion they bring me one (at this point of time I know WHY many restaurants are doing so) - a big red flag.
The service is horrible.
But the next made "my day ruined and my disappointment immeasurable"
They have three beer options in the menu:
heineken 473ml - 460 pesos. pinta of heineken - 480 pesos. sol 330ml - 440 pesos.
As a beer lover I'm ok with heineken if there's no choice so I'm ordering a pint of heineken... and they bring me a small (330ml) glass of heineken. Hmmm... Smaller BUT THE MORE EXPENSIVE beer.
My logic here is simple - given the price that pint for 480 pesos can't be smaller than 473 ml for 460 pesos.
I'm asking the waiter how's that possible. He tells me it's a pint. I'm having a good laughter... But he is serious. OK. I'm heading to the bartender and I'm asking him "sabes lo que es la pinta verdad?" He tells me YES it's half a liter (I know it's 0.568 ml) OK. So why is the restaurant serving me almost half of that beer for this money?
At this point he looks at the waiter, looks at me and gives me my pint.
My wife liked their food. The dish was mediocre as for me and there's nothing more to...
Read moreHappy to leave this review as the certified president of the La Mar fan club. LA MAAARRRRRR 🗣️🗣️🗣️ I have been to all the La Mars in the world (minus Dubai) and BA is a strong contender. Highly recommend!
I started with the Koi No Yokan cocktail with wasabi syrup and nori. Oh…. 20 out of 10. So different and so incredibly crisp, subtly spicy, and refreshing. For apps I grabbed the choripancito, the vieira poderosa (scallop) and ostras (oysters) with a rocoto ponzu sauce, very reminiscent of Lima’s version. 10s across the board. I actually think I ordered another oyster it was so good. Next I moved onto the entrees, yes plural. The waiter looked at me so confused he said you’re ordering a lot of food. I said well, yes. I’m hungry! 💀💀💀 I got the ceviche trio and the langostinos/vieras a la plancha. The trio came with ceviche clásico, Nikkei, and mixto. I think the clásico was my favorite honestly. All 10s, but you just can’t beat that traditional original recipe. The langostinos/vieira I won’t lie, it was a 7-8 out of 10 for me. The scallops were miniature which I found odd since the appetizer was a full sized sashimied scallop. The shrimps were good but the sauce they came in did not wow me. Very oily and garlicky and while good, not great. I probably wouldn’t order it again but I did gobble it right up of course.🥱🤭🤭🤭. I also needed a second drink so I ordered the Despropósito for that gimlet vibe with a floral grapefruit twist. They actually got the order wrong and brought me the Derroche de Simpatía which was so good, I just kept my mouth shut 💀 10 out of 10, though I did enjoy the first drink more. Dessert was the suspiro but I chewed it up so fast I didn’t even get a picture. 💀💀💀 you see the plates? EMPTY.
Overall 10 out of 10 and not surprising from Mister Acurio! I...
