This might be the best place of the city if we take into account the food, atmosphere and the cheap price (around 10 to 15 USD per person).
Although it advertise itself as peruvian cusine, the menu evolved over the years and now it has influences of different latinamerican countries. Yes, you will find peruvian classics like "ceviche" or "aji de gallina", but also Acurio's own version of "tequeños" (typical in Venezuela) and "Huevos Gastón" which resembles "mandi'o chyryry" from paraguayan cusine. If you go with locals (or kids) there are also courses like "Tanta Burger" or "El supremón" (which is the chicken "milanesa"), which will be fine for any palate.
The menu has a section "Piqueos", which one would think is like the small spanish tapas but it is not. Some piqueos are quite big in size that can be taken as a main course. For example, "Huevos Gastón", "Alitas Lima bróster" and specially "Salchipapas Perú-Alemania" are quite big and an adult can eat just that and skip starter and desert.
The menu has a section of Pasta. Those are good, but the dishes are small. If you go with pasta, you might want to do a small starter+pasta+desert.
The "Nuestra Pizarra" (our blackboard) section are new out-of-menu courses that usually stay there for around two weeks. If it's your first time at Tanta I would recommend you to try the classics first.
The classics are "ceviche" (as starter), "aji de gallina", "quinoa airport", "el pollo y el risotto" and "anticuchos de corazón" (last time I asked for anticuchos they only had "anticuchos de pollo" and not "de corazón", which is not the same. If you ask for anticuchos make sure to say "anticuchos de corazón", which are the true anticuchos.
When asking for ceviche they will warn you that it is spicy but don't worry. They make this warning because argentines are not used to spicy food at all. There is not a single spicy food in the argentine cusine. The level of spiciness of spicy courses of Tanta is begginer.
The following courses are not 'classics' because they just appeared on the 2022 menu, but are soo good I need to recommend them: "pollito crem de la crem", "huevos gastón", "pollo chicherito" and "sopa criolla de toda la vida". I hope they survive 2023 menu change.
If you are vegetarian you should go for "chupe campestre" under the soups section. Don't get fooled by the section name, both soups "chupe campestre" and "sopa criolla de toda la vida" are big and can be taken as a main course.
If you go to this place for a date avoid "alitas lima broster". It is impossible to eat the "alitas" with fork and knife (and the shape of the bowl doesn't help at all)., so you will have to use your hands, which is pretty messy.
What is different from most argentine restaurants is that you dont get served by a single waitstaff member. One will take your order, other will get you the drinks, other the food. You can ask the bill or more food to any waitstuff.
About desserts, I recommend "tres leches clásico" (not to be confused with "torta tres leches con dulce de leche"), "suspiro limeño", "superchoco" and "bombón sublime".
Keep in mind the menu changes quite often as some "pizarra" plates get added to the menu and other plates are removed.
I have tried all the menu. The only thing I will recommend you to avoid is "Tartar Jacky" which is basically a block of raw meat with capers. (not to be confused with "Tartar Tanta"). I'm not sure if it still available but just in case. Also I'm not big fan of the causas ("causa limeña", "causa de atún", "causa de langostinos") but if it is very warm outside and you are looking for cold dishes you can give them a shot.
There is also a "Montaditos" section that sometimes appear on the menu and sometimes not. These ones are...
Read moreMy partner and I went on a Tuesday because we received a Big Box (a multi-course menu) as a gift. Upon entering, we were seated at a table and waited to be served. The dining room was crowded but not full. Over 30 minutes passed, and we saw people who arrived after us being attended to. We had to call the manager over to serve us, and he doubted the wait time, even though it was easily verifiable since we had a reservation. Once we were finally attended to, we ordered the appetizer and main course. The appetizer was delicious and plentiful. However, after finishing the appetizer, we noticed that the main course was nowhere to be seen... and it still didn't arrive. A full 40 minutes passed until we noticed two waiters talking, and they realized there were two abandoned plates on a kitchen counter. Obviously, they were ours and had reached the table at room temperature. They were generous portions, and after imagining them hot, I believe they would have been tasty too. To keep it short, I'll leave a final reflection for the person in charge: we all understand that due to the favorable exchange rate for foreign tourists, there may be a tendency to prioritize their service (in my superficial observation, excessively), but never forget that those same tourists can decide whether or not to visit the restaurant based on...
Read moreWent there around 7pm on a Saturday. We called to make a reservation but were told they do first come first serve, unless your party is larger than 6. We were sat immediately, served by Jose. He did well and so did his support team. There were extremely quick and efficient overall.
We ordered two dishes, the lomo saltado and the quinoa dish. Both were FANTASTIC and quite large (we could have shared just one). I personally liked the flavors of the quinoa dish with the agridulce sauce but my partner preferred the lomo saltado. The sauce on the lomo was also fantastic -- almost like a jus. We finished with the pistachio and raspberry cake bar. It was good. I wish the had at least one vegan dessert option but I was willing to suffer for something sweet.
We ordered a glass of the Malbec and a remix on a sidecar cocktail that we saw on instagram. What they brought back wasn't the same thing from instagram but it was delicious. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling water and I finished with a well done espresso.
Total was 27,500 pesos or $42 USD -2 main dishes -1 dessert -1 cocktail -1 glass of wine -1 bottle of sparkling...
