To start with, it is important to mention that we are writing this review in English to express exactly how we felt during our visit to this restaurant. Additionally, we only spoke Spanish with the staff inside the restaurant. We visited the place in the middle of December during a road trip through South America; that is why each of us had a backpack and regular clothes. From the beginning, when we entered the restaurant, the staff looked down upon us, although we behaved like friendly customers. Another issue that we are sure caused discrimination was our age and nationality. Furthermore, we were obviously treated differently than all the other customers. We were neither asked how the dishes were nor if we needed or wanted anything else after finishing eating.
What made us feel extremely uncomfortable was paying the bill. We ordered two pasta dishes and two bottles of water for 42,000 pesos. The waiter looked at us as if we weren't going to be able to pay the bill. When one of us asked to tip the waiter, he declined in a rude way. He said that it wasn't necessary because, according to him, he knew that we weren't from here, which left us speechless.
In conclusion, we definitely wouldn't recommend the restaurant and didn't want to go there with our parents, although it was planned beforehand. To this day, we are extremely upset and are waiting for an honest apology and would recommend reflecting on...
Read moreWe went here for my birthday and for Easter. Our server, Martin, was very professional and friendly, speaking enough English to complement my mediocre Spanish. The risotto al funghi was wonderful. I was too full for dessert on my birthday so Martin gave me a complimentary Tiramisu to take home. We enjoyed it for breakfast!
For Easter, my husband had a rib-eye steak, which he enjoyed immensely. I had fish of the day, very nicely done. However,I think the pastas and risottos are the highlights of the menu. Great atmosphere, always a lively buzz. The young woman host remembered the table we had picked for my birthday and gave us the same one for our Easter meal. We may have been the only non-locals in the place but felt very welcomed. If you’re in Palermo Chico, Buenos Aires, go to...
Read moreWith fine rooftop dining this place can't be beaten on a fresh spring/autumn evening. Service tends to be ok yet, as with the food, Trattoria Olivetti is a gamble, and not a very cheap one. You can go there one night and be received and served by amicable and professional staff and dine finely with seasonal organic ingredients or it can go absolutely the opposite, I had very bad risottos with grumpy staff/manager as many times as I had great experience.
At one occasion, dining with colleagues, a risotto dish came with a pan rivet, their response was "these things happen" and, even when we were drinking high-end wine, they've offered us (a table of 8) a bottle of the cheapest house wine which we rejected. They've charged us for the riveted risotto. From that point onward I stop...
