I am surprised this restaurant has a very high rating. I was disappointed with the food at this restaurant especially considering the price.
It seemed that people at the other tables were also not impressed. The bread given for free was good but the actual dishes not so much.
They had no vegan options and the vegetarian options were covered in cheese. My boyfriend had a meat with pasta and the pasta wasn’t made very well with no sauce. I’ve made pasta from scratch before and the quality was similar to my first attempt which really wasn’t good. The noodles were chewy, different sizes and just a bit strange.
The salad they gave me was a bowl filled with cheese, a few arugula leaves, and no sauce.
They told my boyfriend he couldn’t order his salad apart from the meat and give it to me and that’s why I ordered the cheese bowl “salad.” Then they delivered his apart anyways. His salad was again just ingredients. No sauce, nothing special. I felt they went to the corner store and just picked up ingredients, chop, and drop. Which is fine but not for a location at this price point. I’ve gone to far cheaper restaurants that put more effort and quality in their work.
The desserts were nothing special and not noteworthy. I would skip them.
The ambiance is very lacking as well. Sometimes the food can be forgiving for a nice location or decor but this restaurant didn’t offer that either. I don’t recommend if you are...
Read moreThis restaurant is a definition of a tourist trap. Just look at the photos of dishes they served us and the amount we paid (22000 pesos per person or $65 using blue rate). For us this was probably the worst dinner experience ever. Food was not tasty, it was served cold and inappropriately, they didn’t even bring all the dishes listed in the dinner menu. We ended in this restaurant as it was open on Christmas eve and serving Christmas dinner. The restaurant had really good review score on Google, when we came there it was half empty and they offered us a table. We were foolish enough to not seriously consider the bad reviews from other customers (there were many red flags). My guess is that most of the very positive reviews are fake. Regarding waiters I can say that junior staff was really trying to be nice but they gave the impression they were aware that they’re part of a scam and were not comfortable with it. Senior waiter that accepted us to the restaurant was not friendly at all and she asked to pay in advance the full amount before being seated. On the positive side the Malbec and Chardonnay wines served were really good, and also after we pointed that it started raining they closed the roof over the patio. We also liked the informal and relaxed atmosphere in the patio at the beginning however it was quickly forgotten once the terrible...
Read moreService was very attentive and there is value in the servings overall. An English version of the menu was available and very much appreciated.
Be aware: somewhat limited bar with no pisco available; only one choice of wine by the glass --red or white-- but there is a lengthy selection of bottles from which to choose; all main entrees are prepared for two people to share and popular menu items seem to run out early; the only dessert option available is a choice of three offerings provided, no charge, with each meal--portions are quite small.
We visited here three years ago and recall quite a different experience then with the exception of service: both visits were very attentive. Perhaps COVID-19 forced these changes. But, noting the items mentioned above, we would consider returning to Fuentes y Fonda again if we: Could enjoy a nice cocktail (since there was surprisingly no pisco, I resorted to a very flat and tasteless aperol spritz), Could have a couple more options of wine by the glass to choose from, Could select our own individual entree and not share the choice of another person. (We wonder how many disputes begin over a dinner menu.) And, finally, we would return if we could purchase a delicious Argentine dessert to enjoy with our coffee...
