If we could give this place more stars, we would.
This is the most wonderful little place just off the main square in Cafayate. The owners are the most gracious hosts and immediately make you feel welcome. The wine selection is fabulous, and Mauricio will offer you some wine tasting on the house and take the time to explain each wine whilst you decide which one you'd like with your food. He is well versed in wines and will offer you choices from the long list of wins they have on offer. The food cannot be faulted. Carmen has curated the menu and presents the most wonderful food with great care. The empanadas are fantastic, as is the tamal. We saw the most wonderful food come out of the kitchen and no one left anything on their plate. Mauricio will offer you wine that will pair well with whatever you order, which makes the whole experience even better. They will also go out of their way to edit dishes or, in my case, make me a salad which was not on the menu because I fancied something specific. The atmosphere is wonderful, the owners will both take the time to understand what you need without being obtrusive. We felt welcome in this wine bar, well cared for, and ultimately it felt like we were regulars after an hour of being there. We loved the friendly down to earth atmosphere and how authentic it is. Their offer for wine plus empanadas is amazing value for money because of the great food, the wine tasting that comes with it and the wonderful service. Honestly, we went there both nights we were in Cafayate. It is a fabulous experience that encompasses all the great things Cafayate has to offer. Don't miss out on spending time at Mauricio's and Carmen's. You will...
Read moreIf you only have one night in Cafayate, this is the place to go. If you have two nights in town... go twice. Wine Bar Cafayate is a beautiful human experience with people who are passionate about excellent wine and delicious food.
Mauricio took us on a grand adventure through the nuanced high altitude wines of the region, and Carman blew us away with spectacular, Argentinian soul-food from her kitchen.
You can't go wrong ordering from this menu. I particularly loved the hearty locro. Like a hug from the inside, or some distant childhood memory, I have vowed to learn how to prepare a locro just like Carmen's. The empanadas were also stunning. The two meat dishes were incredibly tender, slatheredin melted cheese and accompanied with delicious fried potatoes. OH, AND the fresh little breads... don't get me started on the little breads! Also... we ordered way too much food for four people.
Our wine tasting experience was fabulous. Mauricio went out of his way to tell us about the wines, even though we don't understand much Spanish. He is quick with a joke and a personable and gracious host to all who walk...
Read moreWe had an incredible nice dinner at Wine Bar Cafayate. Just half a block of the main square, it is a small restaurant (in size) that serve great dishes with careful wine pairings. The team is very dedicated and assured you have a great night out. Naturally you want to have a nice wine with your food and here you can sample three wines that are either around your own taste/preference or based on the dish of choice. We started with some simple empanadas that turned out to be really nice and were a good start. Mains chosen were the meatballs in Malbec sauce (albondigas) and chicken with vegetables. The dinner was completed with two really tasty desserts; a chocolate cake with icecream and nuts and a (Torrontes wine soaked) cake with fruit. All in all we highly recommend the Wine Bar Cafayate as it really stands out in food quality and above all the personal and very passionate service by...
