We were very excited to dine at La Marmite based on numerous recommendations based off social media. However these recommendations painted a very inaccurate picture of what we experienced. For starters, we waited an uncomfortable amount of time before being told to sit wherever 4 seats were open. Upon ordering, two of us ordered beers and the waitress told us it would be better to order a different one, pointing to the most expensive option on the menu. We politely declined and stuck with our original choices. When the beer was brought to the table, she proceeded to pour the beer from one can into the two glasses. When pouring the beer, she dumped the beer directly into the glass, leaving two thirds of my glass filled with foam. I was shocked as I have never experienced such an atrocious serving of beer. I will say that la sopa de calabaza was delicious, but the rest of our experience was disappointing. One of the side dishes that was ordered was forgotten, and the “trout” was clearly salmon. Furthermore, upon specifically ordering “Fondue de queso”, the most affordable and best vegetarian option, with just bread and cheese, we were brought a spread of a few veggies and meats to accompany the fondue. Because spanish is not our first language, we figured it was extra items included in our meal. When we received our check, I noticed the name of the fondue we were being charged for was not the name of the fondue we ordered. The waitress (who was incredibly awkward and hovered over the table for an uncomfortable amount of time without saying a word), said that the fondue on the receipt was the food we ate, acknowledging that we were brought food we did not order. The manager was nearby and instructed the waitress to show us to the menu, where we confirmed once again that we had been served food we did not order. We felt like we were very clearly being taken advantage of as younger tourist who speak spanish as a second language. Eventually, they corrected our bill to reflect the meal we ordered, but it was very unfortunate and uncomfortable to have to fight to have our bill reflect the correct amount. While the fondue was tasty, it was not worth the price, and certainly not worth...
Read moreWe had an amazing dining experience at La Marmite here in Bariloche! From the cozy alpine atmosphere and warm lighting to the friendly and attentive service, everything was perfect. The restaurant was full as the evening progressed — a clear sign of how loved this place is.
I ordered the Ojo de Bife, and it was hands-down the best steak I’ve had in Argentina — tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Paired with a glass of Malbec, it made for an unforgettable evening.
A special thank you to Jorge, who assisted us with such kindness and professionalism. His polite service truly made our experience even better.
