Read moreI visited Chao’s Bistro in Glenelg North for the first time today, drawn in by its strong online reviews. Upon arrival, I was pleased to find a clean restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, and efficient staff. My friend and I ordered the Bistro's Beef Rib Noodle Soup, the Combination Noodle Salad Bowl, and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. While the presentation was appealing, I found the flavours to be somewhat underwhelming. The dishes lacked the depth and authenticity I associate with traditional Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. While the first bite was delightful, the flavors leaned on the sweet side, and the dishes use quite a lot of oil, which made it feel a bit heavy as I continued eating and also because of the large portion. For the fried rice, I think reducing the sugar or offering a white rice option for those looking for a lighter accompaniment would enhance the balance of the dish. But overall, a great dining spot if you enjoy bold,...
