We have been loyal customers of Orange Spot Bakery at Glenelg for many years, visiting every Saturday for a quick bite and often choosing this bakery to cater our family events and business functions. However, after today's appalling experience, we will no longer be supporting this local business.
I was with my elderly mother, and we stopped by for a quick snack between morning commitments. We ordered three items from the cabinet and took our seats. Since we were tight on time, we requested a takeaway bag, just in case we needed to leave quickly. To our surprise, we noticed that customers who ordered after us were being served before us. Concerned that our order had been forgotten, we quietly discussed the possibility of grabbing our food to go.
When our items finally arrived, instead of an apology for the delay, we were verbally abused by a staff member with tattoos on her arm, accusing us of being rude. Let me be clear: at no point were we anything but polite and patient. This unprovoked and shocking behavior was not only unprofessional but completely out of line.
What makes this situation even more disappointing is that we couldāve easily complained about the half a bottle of sauce stretched over the pasty we ordered or the fact that the salad roll was not cut properly, forcing us to tear it apart just to eat it. But we didnātāweāve always tried to be understanding and supportive of hospitality business.
We've always found the staff at Orange Spot Bakery to be pleasant, which made this encounter all the more surprising and disappointing. In a time when the hospitality industry is struggling, treating customers with such disrespect is unacceptable. It is also to be noted that your staff donāt know who the customers are and should be very careful in the way they treat those who have supported this business for years.
As a result of this experience, we will no longer be recommending Orange Spot Bakery to friends, local tourists or using them to cater our business events either. It's a shame to see such a long-standing relationship with a local business end on such...

Pies / pastries : Ok just like you would expected from normal bakery, nothing WOW but still OK Service : Very Poor customer service. The staff rushed us to make an order, no greeting, this is our first time here and we are not familiar with your menus, staff : "What you after?" No smile or hello, or morning? No thanks after spend almost $40 for breakfast.
A bit disappointed with the service during this pandemic causes by covid19. We do understand there is some restrictions applied among the restaurant, cafe and bakery during this though time. We came in the morning , NOT Busy, only 2 of us and other 4 customer who already sit and get their order.
NO clear sign that saying how many people allowed in the shop No sign saying they will not serving people due to covid19 around the shop-dine in (if you not serving people to dine In, and just for take away, better don't put table and chairs so people clear about your business operation during this pendamic). Everything being wrapped just like take away meal which is completely fine for us, we asked for plastic spoon or folks to eat my baked beans, the girls replied rudely "we not provide folks or spoon, we limiting contact with people during this covid19" eventually got a plastic knife instead to stir the hot drink and eat the bake beans - if u want to limit the contact with people or customer, put clearly sign "TAKE AWAY ONLY" or take out the table or put "Do not sit here" sign on the table and chairs in your premise, so it will make it clear for your customers.
We ate and drink overall 5% out of everything that we paid for, and left the rest. We dont mind spending extra $$$ for great food and service, or even the food not so good, if the service amazing, it is exceptional. Could...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe came here because of the good reviews. We arrived and were greeted by the 'most awarded pies' advertisements, everywhere. We ordered a few pies, pasties, sausage rolls, and their so called '2020 best hot cross bun'. Oh, and their coffee.
The pies and pasties were good, but be careful when you asked for sauce as they, quite literally, would injected tons of sauce into your meal! My daughter can't even taste the meat in her pie as it was overloaded with sauce!
The sausage rolls - it was so salty that we cannot even finish eating them. I hope it was just a one off, as otherwise with that much sodium, I don't even know how people can stand their sausage rolls!!!
The hot cross bun was okay, but not extremely different with those from Coles. Sorry.
The coffee, well, I don't know what those people rave about on their Zomato reviews. There is nothing special with theirs, but maybe because we are from Melbourne š
Finally, one small suggestion to the tall gentleman behind the counter: a smile goes a long way and won't...
