Criterion Tavern — Restaurant in Adelaide

We went to the Criterion for the first time on a recent Sunday, just as it opened. It was extremely quiet in the restaurant, no music or background noise which felt a bit awkward, and other patrons all trying to speak in whispers. I ordered the salmon with a potato and zucchini rosti and my partner ordered the rump steak special cooked medium with garlic prawn sauce. Shortly after we ordered we were told they'd sold out of rump and the alternate steak would be $5 more, but we weren't charged any extra in the end. The steak was under but my partner enjoyed it and the sauce was tasty. My salmon was overcooked and very dry, and the rosti was extremely soggy, either warmed up in the microwave or uncooked- either way, inedible. We love "The Cri". What's there not to love? Great food, cheap cocktails, cold beer, friendly staff and a fabulous bottle shop. A bloody good old fashioned "down to earth" country pub in Gawler. You always feel amazing when you leave, full bellies, smile on your face from the amazing and accommodating staff. And a HUGE shout out to Samantha, she is a wonderful woman and a great Manager. I really love the food served at the Cri ( very tasty and good sized portions). The food service staff and the bar staff are friendly and efficient.......with one, and only one exception .... ROY.. he is rude and arrogant and he is the reason that I will take my money, family and friends to another pub. I can’t believe that he works in a service industry job and yet provides minimum service and minimum politeness. I’ve spoken to other patrons and find they feel the same way....
