I came across this Cafe mentioned on Instagram and really wanted to check it out… I was meeting up with a close friend I hadn’t seen in years, so decided this was where we’d go. Well, it turned out to be the perfect meeting place and a few days later, I’m still talking about it. This is a fabulous Cafe, across the street from a park and playground and situated on an intersection. Which, on a Sunday morning was just pumping… the whole park, playground, intersection and beyond, was about this Cafe. There were people and families all around; there were bike riders, families, singletons and people literally all over that corner. It was delightful to see such festivity in a little corner of Adelaide. The Cafe itself seems to extend to the verandah and backyard of the house next door so just when you think you won’t get a seat, there’s more place to consider! So I wasn’t disappointed that there’d be no table. Found a table in the ‘backyard’ under a fig tree, which was good because it was sunny and there was a baby to consider… loaded myself up with a large Cappuccino and a delicious looking homemade tropical fruit cake… only to discover that they also had a singer/guitarist playing out there in the yard! No kidding, it was like they had a mini fringe festival on that intersection! It was so vibrant, and ‘everybody friendly’- we whiled the afternoon away there quite easily, with lots of other customers coming and going in a relaxed fashion. Later, I just had a really good black coffee and my friends had a breakfast burrito, a club sandwich and a rather large berry and chocolate muffin. It was the size of a quarter of a whole cake and although I’m not into berries and chocolate, it tasted moist and delicious when I tried it. My tropical fruit cake was just the sort of cake I enjoy 😊 dense, moist, not too crumbly and not too sweet, like an Italian cake. Perfect cake to have with a coffee, which was really good by the way. The Cappuccino foam was silky and aah worthy, the way I like it; then the black coffee was not too sour, so it only needed one sugar and tasted fine. Look, I couldn’t get over the range of pastries from Abbots and Kinney, their homemade range, the sandwiches on Turkish etc… so I will be back to try much more on their menu. I love cafes and go to quite a few in my travels, but I don’t think I’ve been this excited about one - well, ever? in Adelaide. This was an experience. Sitting there in the backyard like a guest of ‘the family’ on a perfect Sunday afternoon was just that - perfect. When there are so many places that let you down in one way or another, or are going for the trend factor of a particular demographic, this place was embracing and just lovely for anybody. At regular intervals, our table was cleared non-invasively and we felt encouraged to stay, even when their closing hour came around (we were in the yard). No hurrying here. No rush. No elitism and no disregard. All the food we chose looked so tasty and I was impressed the club sandwich came also with a bowl of crisps on the side. The breakfast burrito was so large, it was considered taking half home, but was eaten in the end. I travelled ten minutes to this Cafe, but would come from further, to experience this lovely family of cafe goers again. I want to definitely sample more of the menu and hopefully to feel as relaxed as I did on that Sunday. Good job, Fix. Specialty Coffee. I did get my...
Read moreThis is obviously a little neighborhood hangout , which is near the Adelaide caravan park along the Torrens . It has low tables and bench seating inside , as well as a few outside seats. There were quite a few children there in the day we went , and they were enjoying themselves- there is quite a few cake and cookie options that would appeal to the younger crowd, as well as lots of ready made rolls and buns with various fillings . There was also a hanging menu on the wall , as well as a few local groceries for sale ( loaves of bread from Skala , as well as local Fleurieu milk and some fresh grown fruits and vegetables) There weren’t many gluten free options, although I had the tomato bruschetta with the bocconcini . It was nice and fresh , but the bread was a generic loaf and the amount didn’t balance with the amount of filling . But the coffee was good- the blend was from Melbourne roasters Wide Open Road and it was the caramel and black cherry blend which I liked immensely. They will even ground the beans in store if needed . Staff were casually friendly and it had a corner store atmosphere from days gone by - a relaxing change from a lot of modern places when you want somewhere...
Read moreHave to say that the Cafe name was the first drawcard, and then the positive reviews! I have ridden past this place a few times when commuting to town and finally thought it time to give it a go. First impression was that it is a family run kind of affair - fairly casual staff, various goods on sale, boxes of books by the door. Corner location across the road from a nice looking park, all relatively quiet while being so close to busy urban roads. They certainly stock a vast array of baked sweet goods, and for my 2pm visit there was an awful lot left. This may be why the brownie I had was dry - it was not fresh. The flat white I had was on point, needed no sugar and was smooth. A good sign for me was that I could have had another, if I was so inclined. Think I will visit again, and take some...
