Have been to the Lion resturant many times and have always been impressed with the service and food. Thought we'd book in the bistro last night for a change. Received confirmation email and an sms about 2 hours prior to booking time. Arrived at the bistro and noticed it was very noisy. The initial server had trouble locating the booking but directed us to a table. There was someone else's name on the table we were sent to so we looked around at vacant tables in the bistro but couldn't locate our booking. Went back and showed the booking email with confirmation number and they then sat us at a table that was vacant and they set that up for us. They had obviously not reserved our table. Went to the bar and ordered drinks. Took one drink back to the table and was told mine would be brought over. The meals came out. The drink had not yet arrived. The chicken parmigana was nice but the calamari fritti was too salty as were the chips and the consistency of the calamari was patchy. I didn't finish it all. The salad was mainly greens with some slithers of carrot and a little red onion. I finished eating and went up to the bar and enquired about my drink and was told it was coming. I commented that that was poor timing as I had finished my meal. I ordered the drinks at about quarter to 8 and didnt receive mine until 8.25. Was not particularly happy with this meal or the atmosphere. Even though we weren't seated in the main bistro section it was noisy and hard to hear any music over the annoying echoes of the kitchen and other diners. Disappointing given I have had many nice meals here previously.

End of year, work dinner. There were only 4 of us. We had a table in the bistro. It was a hot day and it was uncomfortably hot in there. Possibly just where our table was right in a corner, but it was really sticky. We ordered entrees to share, they were delicious but unfortunately although we were far from finished our mains arrived. That had us met with that awkward moment where the servers are like, my hands are full, can you make room in a table that literally has no room. So despite the fact we were still eating, we had to stack plates and move food from one plate to another to allow space to put down the next course. Perhaps for future reference, order your entrees and have them and then order your mains. After dinner, we went and sat outside, which was cooler and really nice next to the leafy trees. It's not the establishments fault it was so hot, but definitely something to move the air around inside would be great. On the food, it was yummy, the potato cakes were light and not oily. The trio of cheese dip was served with delicious garlic bread. If you get the warm nuts, it's a small serve. Smitzels were good-sized and the coating delicious.

previously visited in 2021 after a great experience and quality of food so decided to book a table online when revisiting Adelaide during AFL Gather Round. upon arrival was told our table was 114 which was not easy to find - eventually was able to locate the reserved table under the name “Victoria” for 7:15pm even though I had my name Shaun for 7:30pm as the booking! food was average at best, chips cold and dry, I was given a calamari at first even though I ordered a parmigiana… my partner requested no onion due to a food allergy in a $12 side salad which was forgotten to be delivered to the table (had to ask for it twice). way overpriced since side salad was the same size as one supplied with a main meal and included onion so request not followed through especially due to an allergy! won’t be revisiting the Lion Hotel and won’t recommend it to anyone looking for a nice meal or night out in Adelaide.

We came here after the Mothers Day (MD) Classic on May 11 and quite easily found a table outside. We checked out the menu via the QR code that was on the table and went inside to order, only to find out that there was a restricted menu for MD. This was completely understandable. I was given the piece of paper with the menu (from the person next in line) and we changed our order accordingly. There was a line up to order and then one of the tills stopped working so we had to go and order in the bar area, seemingly to the surprise of bar staff. I did not notice the pp price on the menu. I ordered 3 avocado on toast, 2 large and 1 small coffee and the total was $125, for 3 people, an amount which I was totally floored by but paid. It was MD after all! 20 mins after ordering, an 'entree' arrived on a bread and butter sized plate - 3 small pieces of slightly over ripe and squishy watermelon and 2 pieces of fresh pineapple on a smearing of yoghurt, sprinkled with a couple of small fresh flowers, and on another plate, one small custard filled pastry - both to share between the 3 of us. The wait staff indicated they would bring us cutlery and crockery but none arrived. 30 mins after ordering we received our coffees. 65 minutes after ordering we finally received our avocado toast after I had sought clarification from wait staff if they could check on the status of the order. The avocado toast was average - the toast thick, the avocado smash thin with one poached egg. The bacon, however, was a generous serve. I acknowledge that it was MD and therefore they were busy. Having a modified menu I assume was designed to help manage the crowd yet this did not appear to be the case based on our wait time. My review is reflective of the cost, value for money and service. This is definitely not a reflection on wait staff but rather the senior leadership/ management of catering for a MD crowd. I am a glass-half-full sort of person who rarely publically reviews anywhere but this overall experience was unfortunately very poor and...

Was really disappointed with the dining area. I personally went in and booked the round table for my partners birthday weeks in advance. I called a couple of days before just to confirm the booking (I had already confirmed by text aswell) and was told they’d moved us onto a different table because they had to make room for other guests. Apparently there was a bigger group that needed that table and one across from it. The girl said the had a nice table in the window for us though. They also had the booking down at half 6, when the booking was for 7.45 (the text also confirmed it was at 7.45) anyway the night came and I called through to let them know we would be 5mins late and the girl took my name and assured me no problems. Our group arrives and there isn’t a table for us?!? The girl that greeted us was lovely and quickly pushed the tables together for our group. Tables that are next to the round table that I had originally booked. There was another group on the window table with balloons ect. Pretty disappointing they managed to stuff up that many times. Also quite embarrassing considering it was a special night and then 10 of us are all standing around waiting. The meal was okay, yet to add to the lack of service, I asked for a bottle of house white sav, and the guy brought out a $60 bottle of wine, (definitely not a house, shaw&smith) which I didn’t realise until the end of the meal when paying the bill. Pretty disappointed considering it was meant to be a special night and we live across the rd. We have eaten many times in the pub section so had high expectations; all of which were sadly...
