We stayed in Adelaide for 3 days and the soft-shell crab from this restaurant was the best thing we ate! That's not all - we also got the friendliest service we have ever gotten anywhere! (I've lived 3 years in Melbourne and had to visit Adelaide to get good service xD) Maybe it was our lucky day or maybe they're just always in a good mood since they are open only 4 hours per day :D But honestly, we were standing outside reading the menu and then someone from the restaurant came and asked if we are good and in case we are not up for Malaysian, there is a great pub next door that we could also try. We did end up visiting that pub for a pint but only after we had finished our meal in Hut & Soul. We also ordered the crispy salt and pepper tofu but unfortunately the tofu wasn't crispy at all. I would skip this one next time but would definitely repeat the soft-shell crab! It was great with the coconut rice. For drinks we had the "Traffic Lights" and lychee cider and they were both great. We ended up ordering dessert which we normally don't do but we were in a good mood thanks to the friendly service so why not. For me the pandan coconut crepe was a pass but mister liked it, the coconut lover he is. For me there was too much coconut. The delicate flavor of pandan was overpowered by all the coconut. Also it was pretty small for the price. The presentation of each dish was beautiful, with edible flowers and such. Despite some minuses, the pluses were enough for us to want to return the next day but unfortunately they were not open on a Sunday. However, if we will be back in Adelaide, this is the restaurant of our choice! We want to try the laksa and the avocado fries at least. We did not eat inside the restaurant because it was a warm evening and there was a table available outside, but I'm quite positive that the mood inside would have been good, too. Thanks for providing us a pleasant restaurant experience - seems so so hard to achieve...
Read moreIt has been years since I was last here and we were both very disappointed and can't say we will ever go back. It was Valentine's Day and they wanted $50 deposit to secure a booking, probably okay, but have never ever heard of any other restaurant doing this. Drinks were brought promptly but went downhill from there. They forgot about us! Had to be vocal to grab the attention of anybody to serve us and it was over an hour before our meal was delivered from first entering. The menu was not very inviting and we both struggled to find something that we would enjoy. The meals were very average and the gado gado was not very traditional at all. Lastly we asked for a takeaway container for the leftovers. When presented with the bill, they charged 50 cents for the container! WTF! No other restaurant charges or has ever charged for this and seems just a money grab. It's not the amount of 50c but the sheer audacity of charging for something which would cost them practically nothing! It has left a sour taste in our mouth and we wish we had gone to the House of Chow instead which has never disappointed. Take more care of your customers and stop trying to grab every dollar you can otherwise you will find your customers...
Read moreVisited from Perth over the weekend and was very excited to eat here but unfortunately had a few misses with the menu. Ordered the charcoal chicken, mamak mee goreng, gado gado and Ikan bakar to name a few. I would strongly suggest staying clear of the ikan bakar. The fish was overcooked and the sambal was very sour. The servers were great but never once came to check how the food was. On payment I gave them feedback to let them know the fish wasn’t up to expectations and was met with a single sentence of “we will let the kitchen know” no questions on “was it too salty, spicy etc”. I come from a SE Asian background so very aware of what Ikan bakar should taste like and this was probably the worst one I’ve had. Unfortunately the rest of my friends on the table agreed as well and we left half the dish uneaten. Visited on a Monday night so it wasn’t even that busy but wait times for food were slightly long. Sour plum soda also did not taste like sour plum. Apart from that, portions were good and rest of the dishes were yummy but probably wouldn’t be coming back again given the lukewarm response I was given. If you’re going I would avoid any fish...
