30-40min wait on coffees as pointed out in the other 1 star reviews. It has been like this for years and never improved.
For years I have been going here since its close to the playground, but every time I order a takeaway coffee, it's missed in the orders or extremely slow, which leads to a 30 min wait. It happens so much I warn people when they raise even the option, that someone will be away for 30-40 mins, it's unbelievably predictable.
You end up standing at the coffee station for ages, and no one follows up what's going on, like it's normal for people to just stand there for 25 minutes plus. You feel sorry for the poor person on the coffee station since there is little to no help. If you're going here for a takeaway, avoid coffee and hot food, get a drink out of the fridge, and order the cold sweets.
Dine in is much better than take away service.
Also iced lattes aren't made to order. They have a jug of pre made coffee, which they tip in.
Pies and sausage roles are $8.50 which is a tad high, but there is no other takeaway lunch food. There is no pie oven, so the pies disappear for 25 mins and only come out when you chase it up. Hard to digest the price with the poor service & and the amount of staff they have on.
Ongoing disappointment,...
Read moreNext time you are in the Blackwood, Belair or Mitcham townships, then check out Hawthorndene where you will find opposite a parkland setting, with ample car parking, "Joan's Pantry". I have passed "Joan's Pantry" on a number of occasions travelling from Stirling to Flinders Hospital on the Upper Sturt Rd, but always in a hurry. After stopping for a coffee and a cake, realised I should have stopped here a long time ago. Not only is the location good for picnics, dog walking, children's play ground or just relaxing. We found the "Pantry" is a large modern purpose built restaurant, having good facilities, a great kitchen, with an excellent breakfast lunch or take away menu, all at competitive prices. What with a good choice of seating options, indoor and out door, free WiFi, News Paper. We enjoyed their special roast, very well made coffee, with a cake from the display case. We found the service excellent, warm and friendly. Our only disappointment is we should have called in a long time ago, now "Joan's Pantry" will be a regular stop when ever in this area...
Read moreParty of nine, food was 'OK-ish'.
For simple 'Big Breakfast' / brunch type meals there's no reason the food couldn't have been 'great' or even 'awesome'!
Dispite being quite busy they appeared to have enough 'front of house' staff on, but they seemed to be quite disorganised so the service wasn't where it should have been.
There was a bit of a wait for the meals, they weren't 'quick' or even 'about the right time' but even so, the wait wasn't what you would call excessive.
While not the fault of the restaurant, as you might expect with this style of restaurant and clientele it was very noisy, too much so to be able to have a conversation with people sitting more than a seat away from you.
This is probably a vicious circle, someone can't hear properly sounds they need to raise their voice a bit, which adds to the total noise levels, so you need to speak louder, which raises the noise level........
SUMMARY...... While it's OK you can probably do better, but it is next to a great park where you can take the...
