Lone Star, more 'yeah, nah' than yee-haw!
We were eagerly greeted by a staff member with a worried look on her face, which promptly disappeared once I confirmed we had a booking. Lucky I booked, I thought to myself. The restaurant however, was mostly empty. A table of 'lads' on their way out for a bucks show brought some raucous liveliness, but once they'd gone the restaurant was a dead zone.
First impressions count, so how about you take some pride and clean your filthy, sticky menus!
I kicked off with a Bloody Mary, which was a Bloody Mary Mix and not the real thing, it did the job though.
We started with the baked artichoke dip, which was unseasoned and completely tasteless.
We ordered two mains, the Signature Pork Ribs and the Steak and Pork Ribs Combination meal.
The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, but was very chewy and didn't feel worth the effort. My mash was cold and the limp slaw needed a kick in the pants with some vinaigrette to cut through the sweet sauce on the ribs, and to help reset your pallet, but we were there for the ribs, surely they're decent, right? No. The ribs aren't great. They're like a facsimile of a facsimile and absolutely not worth the price. If they came as a side order for $15 with a Pizza Hut meal I'd probably see the value, but this is low rent stuff that the restaurant base's it's whole business model on. If i were a Texan, I'd be reaching for my 'concealed carry' or six shooter, or whatever it is they have over there. It boggles the mind that customers rate this place with 4 stars or more, have these people never eaten good ribs?! Maybe they judge the food on price - 'it's expensive, so it must be good.' (?) Whatever their combined hypnosis to highly rate poor quality food, it didn't work on me, or... maybe I'm being too harsh because I've had the real thing? No, I've had great ribs in Adelaide and these are surely not them.
Lone Star - not...
Read moreHi Lonestar North Adelaide, my husband, 3 year old son and I dined in for dinner last night at 5.45pm. Before the waitress took our order she said that you had a 2 schnitzel promotion going at the moment and that kids eat free, so we thought oh niceeee so we ordered 2 schnitzels since I am pregnant and the thought of it made me crave one. I asked if I could swap my fries for some vegetables to which the waitress said no. Ok, no problems, I ordered the vegetables on the side along with my son's kids pasta and asked for now shaved cheese on top. 5 minutes later the waitress came back saying she could only do either the schnitzel promotion or the kids eat free promotion, so we chose the schnitzel promotion. It was fine and wasn't a big deal. When our meal came out, my son's pasta had shaved cheese on top (when I did ask to omit) but again it wasn't a big thing. Then halfway throughout our meal I had to ASK where my vegetables were at, to which I saw the waitress check the computer, go talk to the waitress who took out order and then head to the kitchen. 10 minutes later my vegetables came out and at the bottom of the bowl it was saturated in water - so much for seasoned vegetables in butter... Food overall was average. For the price of the schnitzel and vegetables on the side without the schnitzel promotion, in my opinion, is not worth it as there are other places I could go to for a better schnitzel and better service. I also want to add that it was not busy either when my family and I dined in - from memory probably another 3 small tables also dining and unfortunately to add to my experience, the toilets were not very clean... I didn't even want to go back in there to wash my hands after my meal after taking my son to pee earlier. Wishing your business all the best and we might be back to try something else on your menu but this was our experience yesterday...
Read moreThis evening my son and I dined at the 'Lonestar North Adelaide'..in which we had previously dined over one year ago, with the most delicious dining experience, hence why we thought we would go there again... The table was sticky as were the menu's..
However unfortunately our experience tonight will be our very last visit to Lonestar North Adelaide... It is very obvious to me, that management have changed hands, as well as the staff.. and the quality cuts of meat are very cheap poor grade, however are advertised as 100 day grain fed quality. Far from it!!!
Hence why we went back, just for the amazing tender sumptuous Scotch fillet steak, we ate previously. I ordered a $45 Scotch fillet (medium well) and my son a Waygu Rump steak (medium rare)..$41..the garlic bread was made with the small ends of a loaf of bread..!!
My steak was appalling..the most toughest, chewy grissly steak I have ever eaten..the so called specially seasoned chips were cold..the limp garden garnish salad, had not even a drizzle of dressing on it..
We both requested the creamy mushroom sauce.. It's just runny thickened cream with 3 slices of mushroom. No flavour at all..needed to have bite and zest.. As three individual waitresses came to ask how our meals were?. I had to inform them how dissapointed we were..
At the same time another gentleman was paying at the counter for himself and his wife..when asked how were your meals..surprisingly he replied..our meat WAS TOUGH AND CHEWY!!
He wasn't even offered a discount, let alone a coffee on the house!!
LONE STAR YOU REALLY NEED TO IMPROVE YOUR QUALITY OF FOOD ESPECIALLY YOUR CUTS OF MEAT..AND MAYBE CHANGE YOUR CHEF..TO SERVE UP HOT TASTY FOOD..AND A PROPER CRISP SALAD WITH DRESSING!!
VERY...
