We were taken to Indii Flavours by a friend who is expert in Indian food. The restful pastel and light wood decor with white cloths and stoneware style crockery and stylish glass was attractive and a great canvas for the amazing food we were presented with. We allowed our host to select dishes for our mixed European, Asian and Aussie group. Our choices were: Chicken Makhani - Butter Chicken,(17.50).. a Tandoor cooked chicken in tomato cashew base with butter sauce. I'd never had this and it was AMAZING! Wow. I can't handle too much heat, and this was a wonderful balance of flavours and warmth. Beef Madras, ( $17.90),our second choice, was beef cooked in coconut, curry leaves, mustard seeds and ginger- the flavour was wonderful! No rubber here, the meat with tender and delicious, the gravy the right consistency, and again, heat with wonderful flavour. Our third choice was another butter chicken, Punjabi Butter Chicken,($18.50)a smoked chicken. As sides we had Garlic Naan Bread ($3.50) two large , cut into fours, Mushroom Olive and cheese stuffed Naan ($5.50), similarly cut, and steamed rice ($3.50)Aromatic Basmati rice. The service was wonderful, attentive without being intrusive. Taran, our waitress, was knowledgeable about the menu and advised us toward choices suited to our palate. Kshirod, the manager checked on us and ensured that all diners were happy. Both were well presented, the restaurant was spotless and the toilets were very high standard. The menu is large from 12 noon until 10, and is handy to Picadilly Cinema for lunch or Dinner. They also do family packs, i.e. $40 for Veg Samosa, Butter Chicken, Rogan Josh, Rice, 2 Naan and Papadam. They have a $70 one for families of teenagers ( I presume). An additional bonus is their cheap lunch menu, ranging from $9.90 - 17.90. I think I will try the Chicken Tikka Roll, char grilled chicken, salad, home-made dips and chutney wrap in bread ($9.90) next time for lunch. Apparently there is the flagship store in Clare. And it shows. Experience, Elegance and high, high quality food served here. You will love it. And the table water is filtered ( at least) definitely not Adelaide tap water. Thanks Indii Flavours, we had a...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience with Indii Flavours on my birthday eve.
On 30th Aug, I called around 6:30 pm to book a table for 5 people at 8:00 pm under the name Sorabh. After being placed on hold for a minute, the booking was confirmed. Based on this, I informed my friends and we prepared to go.
Shockingly, just 30 minutes later, I received a call from a staff member named Sophie, who told me they could no longer accommodate us because they had “another booking.” While cancellations happen, what didn’t sit right was the fact that the booking had already been confirmed. As working professionals, we expect restaurants to either decline availability upfront or honour their confirmation. Canceling after confirmation felt unprofessional and careless.
When we raised this with Sophie, instead of acknowledging the mistake or apologising, she repeatedly shifted the blame back onto us. All we asked for was an explanation and accountability, but instead we felt dismissed.
To test the situation, we called again from a different number under a different name (David Jackson) and requested the exact same booking and same time. To our surprise, this time it was immediately accepted without issue. This left me and my friends questioning whether we were being treated differently because of being Indian. I have never had a racist incident in Adelaide before, but this felt like one, and it was extremely hurtful to experience it on a special occasion like my birthday.
Feedback:
If a booking cannot be honoured, don’t confirm it in the first place.
When mistakes happen, take ownership and apologise instead of deflecting blame.
Most importantly, ensure equal treatment for all customers. No one should feel singled out or treated unfairly because of...
Read moreMy recent visit to Indii Flavours was nothing short of disappointing. I had heard good things about this restaurant, but my experience was far from what I had expected.
First and foremost, the waiting time for our food was outrageously long. We waited far beyond what is considered reasonable, especially for a restaurant that was not overly busy at the time. This level of delay is unacceptable and shows a lack of respect for the customers' time.
When the food finally arrived, it was a major letdown. The dishes were completely tasteless, lacking the authentic flavors that Indian cuisine is known for. It felt as though the chef had forgotten the basic seasoning that is crucial to any dish. Adding to the disappointment, the quantity of food served was insufficient, leaving us hungry and unsatisfied. For the prices they charge, one would expect a decent portion, but that was not the case here.
Moreover, some of the food appeared to have been preserved rather than freshly prepared. The textures and flavors suggested that the ingredients had been sitting around for far too long before being served to us. This raises concerns about the quality and freshness of the ingredients used.
Overall, our experience at Indii Flavours was deeply unsatisfactory. From the excessive wait times to the bland and underwhelming food, it was clear that this restaurant does not live up to the standards it claims to uphold. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality dining experience. There are far better options out there that offer both good...
