Title: A Gastronomic Journey at Ruby Red Flamingo
Nestled in the heart of North Adelaide, Ruby Red Flamingo is a culinary haven that promises an unforgettable dining experience. With its inviting ambiance and a menu that tantalizes the taste buds, this restaurant effortlessly blends traditional Italian flavors with contemporary twists. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of savoring their Duck Ravioli, Homemade Fettuccine with Chicken, Turkey, and Tomato Ragu, and the delightful Arancini Mushroom Ragu & Asiago Cheese Rice Balls.
Let's start with the Duck Ravioli, a dish that truly captivated my senses. Each handmade ravioli boasted a luscious filling of tender duck meat, perfectly complemented by a creamy orange-infused sauce. The flavors danced harmoniously on the palate, with the addition of Parmesan cheese adding a delightful depth.
My husband had the homemade Fettuccine with Chicken, Turkey, and Tomato Ragu, it was a comforting yet refined delight. The freshly made fettuccine, cooked to perfection, was coated in a rich and hearty ragu that exuded warmth and flavor. Topped with generous shavings of Parmesan cheese, it was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality and taste.
But the real star of the show was the Arancini Mushroom Ragu & Asiago Cheese Rice Balls. These golden orbs of goodness were a symphony of flavors and textures. Each bite revealed a creamy interior of mushroom ragu and Asiago cheese, perfectly complemented by the crispy exterior. Served with a fresh tomato and rocket salad, it was a refreshing and satisfying combination that left me wanting more.
Throughout our dining experience at Ruby Red Flamingo, the service was impeccable. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and passionate about the cuisine they served, further enhancing the overall enjoyment of the meal.
In conclusion, Ruby Red Flamingo is a culinary gem that should not be missed. Whether you're indulging in the Duck Ravioli, the Homemade Fettuccine with Chicken, Turkey, and Tomato Ragu, or the exquisite Arancini Mushroom Ragu & Asiago Cheese Rice Balls, each dish is a testament to the restaurant's dedication to culinary excellence. Read moreNorth Adelaide, Tynte Street. Ruby Red Flamingo-cheeky name, big promise. My son took me here for Father’s Day, and let me tell you, you don’t forget a meal like this.
From the jump, the service ran like clockwork but without any of that robotic polish that kills a place’s soul. Here, it was warm, human-like they’d been waiting for you, not just another booking on the books.
The food? Faultless.
Arancini that could’ve rolled straight out of a Sicilian grandmother’s kitchen-golden, crisp, giving way to molten mushroom and cheese. The octopus carpaccio? Bright, clean, kissed with lemon and garlic. A dish that reminds you the sea is alive, not a commodity. And vitello tonnato-veal so thin it almost disappeared, paired with that silky, oddball tuna mayonnaise that somehow makes perfect sense in the right hands.
The pastas were no filler act. Mezze maniche-prawns sweet as the tide, pancetta salty and rich, saffron weaving through like smoke. Then fettuccine with turkey and chicken-a reminder that rustic doesn’t mean boring. It was honest, soulful, the kind of pasta you keep eating long after you know you should stop.
The main event: a scotch fillet chargrilled to a perfect medium-rare, no apologies. The cotoletta? A schnitzel, yes-but elevated. Crisp outside, tender inside, balanced by fresh, vinegar-slicked salad. And the vegetarian polenta-let’s just say it didn’t play second fiddle. Mushrooms, cheese, spinach-pure, earthy comfort.
Dessert wrapped it up with zero missteps. A tiramisu that whispered coffee and cream without drowning you. Chocolate pudding that hit every note-rich, sweet, indulgent, but never cloying.
Ruby Red Flamingo gave me exactly what I want from Italian: food that makes you feel human, connected, alive. Sharing it with my son only deepened the sense that meals aren’t just food-they’re memory, ritual, love.
On this Father’s Day, in that buzzing dining room on Tynte Street, it felt like life-messy, rich, fleeting-was being served one...

Any more than 2 people dining, go for the banquet which gives you a choice of:-
3 starters plus 2 pasta dishes plus 2 mains plus 2 desserts
They will cook up each of your choices and serve it to you in share platters. There is definitely enough to go around and it's almost a degustation dinner.
The only catch is, you need to agree on your choices!!!
The starters (we chose Wagyu, octopus and arancini) and pasta (we chose gnocchi gorgonzola and fetuchini ragu) dishes were absolutely lovely. In particular, the gnocchi gorgonzola had fresh, light gnocchi and a zesty gorgonzola sauce that just made everything 'pop' with flavour.
The mains were scotch fillet steak and barramundi. The scotch fillet steak was nicely charred and had a very distinct 'smokeyness' about it. The steak was too thin to get a uniform medium-rare cook on it with any consistency. However, it tasted divine. The fish came in strips and was very tasty too. The strips were thin in width but it was evident that this was a big fish because it had good depth. Although, I must say, I felt a little disappointed at the size of the fish portions (which we had to share as well. I did expect the strips to be 'thicker').
Dessert (we chose tiramisu and melting chocolate cake) was very nice and very rich.
Drinks are extra, of course.
All-in-all, a nice restaurant, a good meal and a good atmosphere. If you don't like 'loud' restaurants, perhaps ring ahead and book a table inside rather than outside.
I take my hat off to the chef and the kitchen staff as they seemed to be keeping up with the orders very well; and the food tasted good.
I would go...
