I want to start with the thing that I liked most about this restaurant - the quality and taste of food.
We ordered 4 different dishes, and all of them were simply great. Very good tasting, customised to our preference, brought in hot, and presented very well.
What really needs to improve at this place is the service. They are understaffed. The staff does their best to accommodate the guests, but feel helpless when there is unexpected rush. Today they blamed us for being a large group for slow service, but we split into 3 tables and placed orders separately. So technically we were not a large group. First dish in the order came to us after 40 mins on one table, and last dish came after 80 mins on the 3rd table. Meanwhile, others who came before us got their food, ate and left - when they ordered the same thing that we had ordered that didn't arrive.
What was disappointing (and can be improved) is that staff didn't even update us on the order or check on us while we waited for over 60 minutes. There's a big opportunity for improvement, given the money this place can make and the community service it can provide with great dining experience.
I'd end the review with a positive note. The manager finally acknowledged our grievance after we finished eating, and told us that he got more people than usual - so he couldn't plan for the staff required for service. So there is awareness that there is a problem.
I hope there will be action following the awareness. Meanwhile, I still recommend people checking this cafe out, because as I mentioned earlier - their food...
Read moreI bought a medium-sized cheese cake at $55 from Mr Nick's Kitchen & Cafe on 19 March. It's big enough for 6 to 8 people. The large-sized cheese cake was sold at $75. In case the cheese cake has not been sold within a few days and when it's approaching expiry date, they may offer discounts.
There were plenty of fruits as toppings on the cheese cake, including strawberries, blueberries and blackberries.
The taste of the cheese was really good and it's a very good balance of everything in the favour. I bought it for the birthday of my family member. I think it's good even just served as desert as we can't wait for our another family member's birthday which will be 3 months later.😋
I have also tried their small tarts on another day and they are awesome and very delicious.
Update on 22 June: The big fridge for storage of big occasion cakes has recently been relocated to the Bakery zone within Frewville Foodland (i.e. inside the supermarket), no more situated at the entrance of Mr. Nick's Kitchen & Coffee Bar.
I visited Mr. Nick's Kitchen today and booked a cheesecake for my family member's birthday next week. There are more cakes available than it used to be. They all looked...
Read moreVisited for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The hostess was friendly and welcoming, which gave us a good first impression. However, things quickly went downhill.
We noticed the guests behind us were frustrated after waiting over 30 minutes for their coffee — a warning sign we unfortunately ignored. Our own food took about 25 minutes to arrive, and I had to return and decline my breakfast as the scrambled eggs were severely undercooked and inedible. I was not prepared to wait another 20 minutes for breakfast to be r-cooked.
My partner started eating while we waited for our coffees, which only arrived halfway through her meal. The ambiance was pleasant, and the café seemed popular, but the experience didn’t match the vibe.
Overall, we found the prices quite high for the quality and service provided. Sadly, we won’t be returning...
