Everything was really nice.
Booked in advance so that we didn’t have to wait when we got there. Upon arrival got served very quickly. The venue had lots of places to sit with a nice beach theme. The service from staff was exceptional, they were very friendly and patient when accepting orders as well.
The food was very tasty too. For entree we had some arancini balls and then a beetroot hummus with focaccia. The arancini balls were the best I’ve ever tasted from anywhere ever. Would recommend to everyone. The beetroot hummus was fresh and light compared to a normal hummus, perfect for a hot day. It came with focaccia, and also a gluten free option too.
For main I had the Tasmanian salmon which was very delicious as well. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Crunchy skin and tender meat. This was the star of the show but the whole dish was tasty.
Had some Palais fried chicken and the fried dumplings and both were nice too. The fried chicken is moist and tender inside and crispy on the outside. You have a choice of a few sauces but all of them tasted good in previous feeds. The dumplings were a bit different to me as I’ve never had fried dumplings like that before. The flavour profile was also interesting with flavours I couldn’t figure out, but it was unique and delicious.
Overall a great place to go for any meal of the day, especially in the warm summer days as you’re located right...
Read moreI went here through the week and the food was exceptional. I liked it so much I called to book for another night, understanding that they may be busy.
Now as a bistro manager myself I know exactly what it's like when your dining room is booked out, and how awkward it can be when other parties expect a table that you just cannot cater for. However when I called to ask for a table for two 3 hours before dinner service, the waitress told me 'we're booked out'. I said 'no problems, (I assumed as much) but is there any way you could squeeze a table for two anywhere in the venue?' Her response was 'no, we can't.' I then asked 'could you book me in for a later time and hope that a table frees up?' .. Her response: 'No, I don't know when people are going to leave so I cannot guarantee a table' Now I understand the predicament I put this person in, in asking for another table, but to me, as a manager too, I thought this person could have at least tried to work with me a little more.
I've been in this situation with other venues, when I have called another venue in particular they were booked out their response was 'look, we're completely booked out, but I'm the manager here, come to the bar and ask for me and I'm sure we could squeeze you in somewhere.' Unfortunately I wont be attempting to book again at the Palais anytime soon and am ridiculously disappointed in the customer...
Read moreI’ve been coming to the Palais for 15+ years now. I’ve seen it go through ups and downs in management, but is over all a great pub.
There’s always great selection of beers on tap and the food is good. The building is great and when it’s warm, it’s a great atmosphere. The chicken parmy is excellent.
The reason I didn’t put a 5 star on this review is due to the inconsistency of the staff. Some are really nice and will say ‘hello’ and ‘how’s it going’ etc, but then almost every time I’m here, without fail, I’m met with a ‘you alright’ or ‘yep’, when trying to buy a $10-13 beer from a part timer that really really really really doesn’t want to be there. Overall the staff are good, but there’s some absolute beauties in there, where if who ever owns this establishment was to experience, would have a heart attack.
Over all it’s a great pub as I said and if the inconsistency issues are resolved, you wouldn’t be able to beat it in the area. You can’t really beat the building and sitting out near the marquee (that they cut down).
Site back, relax, get a freezing cold west end or Jane squire, get out in the sun and breath in that fresh outer harbor air.
Once upon a time a saw a 2 mtr brown snake here, which almost went into the pub. Imagine having a coopers pale and getting bitten by a brown snake at a pub in Semaphore Adelaide South Australia…..that would be...
