I recently visited a restaurant known for its Malaysian and other Asian food, eager to try their nasi goreng. The dish was flavorful, with a good mix of spices, but the portion size was disappointingly small for the price. The fried fish, which was served alongside the nasi goreng, was crispy but lacked seasoning. The beef rendang, though tender, didn’t quite live up to the rich, bold flavors I expected. On the bright side, the service was quick, which was a plus, but overall, the experience didn’t justify the cost. For a more authentic taste of Malaysian cuisine, the char kway teow and balado dishes might be worth a try instead.
Now, shifting gears a bit, let me tell you about my cats, Ethan and Aidrian. They’ve been my companions for years, each with their unique personality. Ethan has always been the more adventurous one, constantly exploring and getting into mischief. Aidrian, on the other hand, is more laid-back, content to curl up in a sunny spot and watch the world go by. Recently, though, Ethan has been facing a tough battle—he was diagnosed with cancer, and it’s been heartbreaking to see how much it’s taken out of him.
Ethan used to be so full of life, always the first to greet me at the door and the last to settle down at night. Now, he spends most of his time resting, and his once-boundless energy has faded. Despite this, he still finds ways to show his love. He’ll nuzzle up to me, purring softly, as if to remind me that he’s still here, still fighting. Aidrian seems to understand what’s going on, too. He’s been more attentive, often lying close to Ethan, almost as if he’s trying to comfort his brother in his own quiet way.
Watching Ethan go through this has been incredibly hard. Every moment with him feels more significant now, and I find myself cherishing the simple things, like the way he still tries to follow me around the house, even if he’s moving slower these days. Aidrian’s calm presence has also been a comfort—he’s always nearby, offering his quiet support.
It’s moments like these that make me realize how much they both mean to me. Ethan’s spirit is still there, even if his body is struggling, and Aidrian’s gentle companionship has been a source of strength for both of us. Every day with them is a reminder of the deep bond we share, and I’m grateful for every moment we have together, no matter how...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Pondok Daun Restaurant during a last-minute visit before catching our flight back to the Sunshine Coast, and I'm so glad we did! The experience was nothing short of delightful.
The highlight for us was undoubtedly the noodles; hands down the best we've ever had! Bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection, they left a lasting impression. The Batagor, oh my goodness, it transported us right back to the streets of Indonesia. Authentic, crispy, and incredibly tasty.
Despite being in a rush, the service was exceptional. The staff were quick, friendly, and ensured that our dishes were not only served promptly but were also fresh and scrumptious. Their efficiency didn't compromise the quality, and that's something we truly appreciated.
Pondok Daun Restaurant managed to capture the essence of authentic Indonesian street food, making it a must-visit for anyone craving a genuine culinary experience. We regret not having more time to explore the full menu, but if the noodles and Batagor are any indication, we're certain everything here is a culinary delight.
A big thank you to the chefs and staff for making our short visit memorable. We'll definitely be back to savor more of your delicious offerings on our next trip....
Read moreFirst time ordering in, and I was happy with my meal except for the spiciness levels. I saw the place from the outside a few days ago on my ride home so tonight I ordered via ubereats feeling pretty excited to try Indonesian for the first time. The delivery was here within 20mins, even with the 33kmph wind and showers going on outside.
The food was reasonably proportioned for the price, though I would've been more happy with a larger portion of the slow cooked sweet beef. It certainly satisfied though, and there were some leftovers. My main point of concern was the spiciness. The ordering system on ubereats did not ask me how spicy I wanted it, and everything was 9/10 spicy by default.
I am a huge spicy food fan but it wasn't what I was aiming for tonight, and I ended up tearing up quite a lot (fortunately not because of my emotions haha). The beef was flavourful but not as soft as I would've liked slow cooked beef to be. I would ideally gave given 4.6 stars, but I've rounded it up to a 5 (as I have no choice! Google could be a little more functional in that sense).
Overall, I was happy with my experience and I'd be happy to order again (except this time I'd probably put in a note asking for less chilli...
