The public transport 'gateway' to South Australia. Trains run to Gawler (north) Outer Harbour (west) Belair (south/east) and Seaford (south). Train services operate on a 'Metrocard'. This can be purchased and funds added to, at a Metrocard ATM with many locations throughout the area.
Walk through the station to the end (heading north) and you will come out at the riverbank of the Torrens River. There is an amazingly large bridge you can walk to cross over or head to the lawn area and take in the views. Also at the end of this walk through you will find an entrance to the Adelaide Festival Centre and an entrance to Sky City (Casino) which is only open for special events.
There is an Historical display, very interesting with a map from 1915 showing the railway line for South Australia.
Public amenities are available at the bottom of the stairs, next to a Kiosk. Wheelchair access ♿ is available.
You can exit the Train station via underground walkway next to the stairs /escalator that will take you to North Terrace. There is also a long, steep walkway directly opposite the platforms exit, that will take you to the left of North Terrace (heading towards State Library...

If there aren’t enough screens thanks to maintenance works or the wrong information is displayed (as has happened numerous times), then you could well be buggered. Ask the driver if they’ll be stopping at your desired location. If you can't ask, well, enjoy the potentially bogan filled trip 😉 and hope for the best.
Eventually, you'll find your way to the right station or a cramped bus service (or three) that will at least get you to where you need to go. If you don't have hours to spare, you can always call a filthy cab and that might not take more than an hour...
Still, at least Adelaide Railway Station's nineteenth century style can be really...
Read moreThis is one of the best metro systems in the world and the volunteers are professional, knowledgeable and willing to help. I recommend the metro system’s business mind and thoughtfulness to sell discount metrocard to cruise ships which cover all the public transportation for a whole day. We rode both blue line and orange line. The orange line is very scenic.
We came all the way from Florida and wanted to visit Hahndorf where our great great aunt lived. Fortunately, with the help of volunteers, we reached Hahndorf via Adelaide public transportation. We are not only very impressed but...
