Had an indoor table last night. Venue is cosy, warm and inviting and very well thought out, from the tables to the wall decor. You can smell the smoked meats, but it isn't cloying or overpowering. The limited indoor tables make for a more attentive and intimate dinner service.
The staff are great at their jobs, service was impeccable, they're extremely friendly.
We got the "let us feed you" selection of 5 meats and 4 sides for $62 per person. The portion sizes are decent, we had a table of 3 and the amount of food left us adequately stuffed lol.
While the food was pleasant, it didnt quite hit the spot. We chose the apple slaw, mac and cheese, potato gems and corn bread from the list of sides. The apple slaw was average, and you couldn't taste the apple. The corn bread was dry and crumbly.
On the other hand, the potato gems were satsifyingly crunchy, and the breading? Had decent seasoning. The mac and cheese was a real winner, thick cheese sauce and flavourful, the pasta is the straight cut short noodles, rather than corkscrew or typical macaroni noodles, but it works.
Our favourite of the meat selection was the pork ribs, they were flavourful, juicy and melt in the mouth. The brisket was also decent, I enjoyed the crust, but was a little dryer compared to when we last had it. Still a solid option though. The pulled pork had decent flavour, but was on the dryer side. I do believe that its a fine line with pulled pork being dry or not though. The sausage links had great flavour, but the links weren't as snappy as i was expecting? The casing almost seemed stale in a way? And tough. I cannot personally attest to the buffalo chicken wings as im not a spicy girlie, but they were thoroughly enjoyed and rated in the top 3 things of the night.
By far my favourite thing of the night was the American pie cocktail I had, I even ordered it again before we left lol. Very well balanced and the cinnamon rim really tied it all together.
Overall, we'd come again due to the amazing service and venue vibes. And that delicious...
Read moreI’ve spent a lot time in the US (lived there for three years) and do a fair bit of American BBQ myself, so was interested to see how this place stacked up. The first thing that struck me was the requirement for a reservation and the formality of the check in process – that certainly isn’t like any American BBQ place I’ve ever been to! I guess that is the nature of things being a popular, yet niche restaurant (here in Adelaide anyway). We selected the “let us feed you” option. Overall, the food was decent but for the money did not stack up to an average place in the USA. Here are my thoughts on some of the dishes:
Brisket – They did a good job cooking it, with decent bark and enough moisture but ours lacked a bit of smoke penetration. Way too much pepper in the seasoning which overpowered the natural delicious flavour of the brisket.
Ribs – They broke rule number 1 with ribs prep. The membrane on the bottom on the rack is supposed to be removed before cooking as it does not break down and detracts from the delicious texture of the rib meat. Otherwise the ribs were probably the better of the meats.
Pulled pork – This was so so. Not a lot of smoke, or “bark bits” through the meat. It tasted more like steamed pork.
Baked Beans – This was weird. The sauce tasted more like butter chicken than any American BBQ I’ve ever had?
The Wings were decent, but the Kransky was average and didn’t really add to the platter. They could probably delete the Kransky from the menu. One thing that I was grateful they were not “authentic” with was the coleslaw. Americans destroy their slaw with dressing rather than let the crispy freshness of the salad speak for itself.
The choices are pretty limited for American BBQ in Adelaide, so if you want to get a taste of what it is all about “Low and slow” is worth looking at. However in my opinion for the money they charge these guys could up their game. It would only take a few small things. Three stars is a bit harsh, I would prefer to give 3.5 if there...
Read moreMy wife and I were on our honeymoon and were looking for the best BBQ in Adelaide and was led to Low & Slow through some quick web search.
First impressions of this establishment was pretty good. The chill casual atmosphere with American inspired decor provided a relaxing feeling whilst seated inside the restaurant. Menu was cute, handheld (stress-free) and nicely designed.
Our experience here got exponentially better when the fantastic waitress (Mao we love you! :D) warmly welcomes you and patiently takes your order (it was our first time here). As we were not big eaters, Mao carefully suggested the right food portions for our dinner. And we were very glad with the portion when the food came. On our tray came a portion each of their beef brisket, smoked pork ribs, tater tots, bread & butter pickles and the collard greens. Food was above delicious and definitely satisfied our massive BBQ cravings. Both vege sides were perfect, especially the collard greens which help to freshen up your palate after every few bites of their wonderful meats. The tater tots were a nice touch to the meal and they were just the right amount of crispiness on the outside and softness on the inside. All these was then chased down with the lager which was nice (ended up having 2 pins).
To conclude, Low & Slow provided a comfortable atmosphere, very delicious food and drinks, and last but not the least, your experience here will be elevated by the great fantastic amazing impeccable service rendered by our lovely waitress, Mao! (thanks Mao, we cannot thank you enough for your hospitality!)
I hope to be back soon to try their pulled pork shoulder and wash down all that deliciousness with a couple more...
