Had some time to venture out today… Decided to pop into The Banksia Tree Cafe for some brunch ☺️ Service started out a bit unwelcoming at first, but it smoothed out during the duration of our visit and we left full and happy! __________________________________ EDIT - Response to owner’s comment We appreciate you being able to eventually accomodate us however… I did try to call and make a booking today and was specifically told that you didn’t take bookings only walk-ins (it wasn’t clarified till later when we got there that you don’t take on-the-day bookings). When I called at 10:30, I asked if there would be any tables at 12. The reply I received was “yeah we are busy now, it should be good by then”. It wasn’t good when we got there at 12 (understandably this is out of your control, but the events that follow were not). The waitress left us outside in the rain with a toddler as she proceeded to promptly move 2 other tables inside (and we were certain that we were there before 1 of them). To top it off, the waitress didn’t offer us a table inside, we had to ask! Even then, she said, "oh if I can’t get you a table, inside, do you want takeaway instead" dismissively. Hope you treat the next customer a bit more kindly.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Port Adelaide, The Banksia Tree Cafe and Restaurant is an absolute gem for food lovers seeking a unique, mouthwatering experience. On my recent visit, I indulged in their Buttermilk Chicken, Haloumi and Sweet Potato Fries, and I’m already planning my return. The Buttermilk Chicken was simply perfection on a plate. Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, the chicken had the right balance of crunch and flavor, with a subtle hint of spice that kept each bite exciting. It’s comfort food elevated to a new level, leaving you craving more. Then, there was the Haloumi, which was an absolute standout. Grilled to golden perfection, the salty richness of the cheese was beautifully complemented by the sweetness of the pomegranate molasses and the nutty, aromatic crunch of the dukkah. It was an incredible balance of flavors that took this simple dish to gourmet heights. The café itself has a cozy, inviting atmosphere, with friendly staff that make you feel at home. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Banksia Tree Café in Port Adelaide is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good food made with care and creativity. Five stars, without a doubt!

Situated on historic St Vincent Street (cnr Robe Street) this Cafe sits comfortably. Relatively spacious and airy inside, this venue provides space for a large table group or a more intimate table for 2. Certainly in summer the footpath bench options may be viable, but the traffic flow here is usually quite steady. I personally liked their mantra of local, seasonal, sustainable and this is clearly supported on the menu. Poached eggs were spot on and the scrambled egg burger was very flavoursome. Coffee was good enough for a second helping with a moderately robust blend and relatively smooth finish (8/10). Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. Definitely worth continuing patronage. *Addition to this review that was warranted by the outstanding service provided by *Tamara*; she was friendly, accommodating, helpful and hard working. The service that she provided was exemplary and I ensured the owner (working in the kitchen) was aware of the asset she represents to his business.

Took the trip, worth it? Yes i believe so. Beef Burger and Ice Coffee, a staple favorite. Staff and atmosphere was wonderful and a pleasure to enjoy. Relaxing and comforting. Starting with the Ice Coffee, ordering extra strong is a must. The ice coffee was perfect aside from the need to have Ice cubes remaining in the finish product. My belief is an Ice coffee should be cold enough, that ice cream will melt over 45 minutes. Any faster, and the temperature was too warm. Ice Coffee 8/10 Lets talk Beef Burger. I was excited and abit let down with this product. I may have been unlucky, observing the chef cooking over raw flames is all nice for show. But adding fresh wood to the already cooking buns and meat, added a flavor unwelcomed. The Chef might have misunderstood Smokey for Smoke. The difference in tasting burnt wood and char. Never the less, the product itself has potential and i would certainly come back again for a revenge meal. Beef Burger 6/10

Was this a delight to visit or what! We were looking for a last minute place to go to for a birthday celebration, called these guys the day before, and they accommodated. Upon arrival, the atmosphere was very welcoming and warm. Dan greeted us and we all very quickly realised that we had his birthday to celebrate on the day we were there also. The food was very impressive. All locally sourced and in season. It was very nice to see one of the stoves in the kitchen using red gum as the fuel source, this made the bread/toast very very yummy! Massive thank you all of the staff here, it was an experience we are all going to remember.
