Overall the food experience was very good. The ambiance was hip with dark-ish lighting and music with lots of talking noise, so it might not be for you if you don't like that. Although anecdotally, the overall experience has been a little bit hit and miss depending on which dishes you order. We were really happy with everything we got 😃. . Laughing cow shallot pancake: this was really different from the usual shallot pancakes around. There was some stuffing with coriander and cream cheese? Very tasty. . Kingfish sashimi with strange flavour dressing, umami salad: really fresh with a dressing that has a super interesting flavour! . Spinach, chestnut, and mushroom pot stickers: so tasty! The chestnut added an extra crunch. Loved it 😍. . Shredded cabbage salad with mustard leaf, toasted sesame, fried onion, miso dressing: refreshing 😃. . Tempura onion rings: different way to make onion rings - very tasty! Loved the burnt french onion dipping sauce. . Tempura whole coral prawns with shichimi: this one worked quite well with the ginger rice actually. By itself it was a bit average, but became much more tasty with the rice. . Blue swimmer crab, Koshihikari rice, white pepper sauce, tempura batter: this was a super creative dish! It was amazingly flavourful! . Dessert: coconut sorbet, shiso, dried plum - this dish had a super interesting combination of tastes. The sweetness of the coconut sorbet and the sourness of the plums and the savoury flavour of the shiso...
Read moreMe and my husband went for dinner last night to celebrate our birthdays. When we came there we sat at bar area and choose the menu $95 per person , food was pretty average, plain and definitely not worth money , we expected some amazing food as we went couple of months ago at Shashobo and it was unreal . I would usually give 3 star for food , but the service was that one which made me to give one star. My husband ordered Japanese whisky (as he wanted to try it $18 per 30ml) The waitress Elise served our drinks and pour the whisky it the glass , when my husband saw it you couldn’t even see that’s anything actually in the glass . He was shocked as he didn’t had enough whisky for mouth full. He politely said to Elise that amount of whisky wasn’t 30ml, she was so rude about it and said that it wAs that they measure it before they serve . They she went to say that she will bring 30ml water in the glass for him to see that he was wrong . She came back with water obviously to try to embarrass him, but as he saw it he said that he only got half of that . She rudely said that she will bring him another 15ml ! When she came back with a whisky she almost trow it on table and left. After that she didn’t served us. I have complained to the other waitress as I was paying . We never experienced anything like this . I am not the person who writes bad reviews, but this had to be written! We payed $240 for dinner, would not certainly not recommending this...
Read moreIt's okay, but I really don't know why this is treated so highly. Overall I enjoyed the sibling Shobosho much better. ShoSho food sounds great on paper, but the delivery on the palate left a lot to be desired. The prawn "sambo" (Australian vernacular for a sandwich) was overwhelmed by white bread and mayonnaise and lost any possibility of finesse. We were suggested the onion pancake as it was popular and it was tasty, with good texture. The pickled cucumber however was very average, I can easily make something incredibly similar at home. And it was incredibly difficult to eat with chopsticks because of the size of the cucumber... Poor form. We also tried the potsticker dumplings which were okay, but again nothing special. We opted to end our dinner early, and not have anything more and, quite unusual for us, skip dessert all together. Dessert is something we normally really look forward to, but we were so underwhelmed we didn't want to waste our money. The service also wasn't great. Suddenly my partner started getting dripped on, as what seemed like an air conditioner water bent stared dripping almost on top of her. We told the staff and they just put some serviettes under it so it wouldn't splash as much. We had to move the table further away to keep ourselves dry. As tables left, the new tables were set with blankets, but we were never offered them, even though it was a really cold (16°) summer evening. Overall, I wouldn't be...
