Food/Drink Poisoning Alert! My friend and I visited this place last Saturday. We ordered a cheesecake each, a flat white and a latte. There was no customer before us, but a few after us. Interestingly, the customers behind us got served for their coffee first. When our coffees were served, you couldn't tell the difference between a latte and a flat out, there was no latte art whatsoever. It tasted not particularly good neither, it was watery, and lukewarm. It got worse from here, my friend and I both experienced diarrhoea in the afternoon. The cheesecake we had seemed ok. The only thing that was out of ordinary was the coffee, but who knows, could be the cheesecake too. We will not return to this cafe, and will report this incident to the relevant regulator. It is very disappointing as we both had wanted to visit this place for a while, travelled from the east side of the city to support small local business like this one, but I can't excuse them when the food and/or drinks are not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were lucky to stumble upon Port Adelaide's Mayfair Bakery, est 1870 (150-ish yrs)! It's not that often to come upon classic Australian bakeries anymore. . The signature dish is the fresh pasteurised cream cheese cheesecakes (gf) and they supply nationwide too, we overheard a tour guide say. Edit: our research says SA only, at IGA etc. . š„§ Cheeseburger Pie $7 š§ Clare Valley Honey & Pistachio Cheesecake $8 . The pie was good, but that cheesecake! Add it to your list if you're in the area. It serves 2-3 as a treat. . š This is the food gift we'd take home (carry on only) if we were headed home the next day. . Oddly the bakery has no prices (a rising trend we've seen). I need their logo on a postcard, it was a work of art. Service was friendly. . š„§ @mayfair.bakery.patisserie š Port...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe sausage roll I had was really nice, it was hot, fresh and tasty. There wasn't a huge selection of pastries or cakes which it was you would normally expect to see in a bakery when you go in after the lunch rush but this was just before lunch time so felt it was a bit lacking. The register didn't have any two dollar coins in it for them to give me change and apparently the task of opening and putting a new roll of two dollar coins in the register required both people behind the counter leaving a customer waiting to order his food. Prices were a bit high as well - $6 for a sausage roll and most of the pies. I probably won't be going back here knowing that there is only a small selection of food and inept service - not for the prices...
