Wok by the Sea — Restaurant in Adelaide

Saturday 21 October 2023 - A BAD EXPERIENCE I ordered a take-away king prawn omelette, expecting it to be as stated - prawns and omelette. When I opened it I thought they had mixed up my order with someone else as it was full of stir fried veg. No sign of prawns or omelette. It looked to have dark pieces of something in it which I could not identify in the dark where I was going to eat my meal. So, being allergic to some foods I didn't want to eat it. Took it back and the lady walked out the back to get the manager. After having her private conversation with him they came back to the counter. They refused to refund me as I had 'taken it out of the shop', 'that's how they always make omelette', 'all of our regular customers are happy', 'no one else has ever complained'. I pointed out that their menu states '& VEG' next to many items on the menu. So it should have said "& VEG" next to the omelette. They said the dark pieces were mushrooms, but I told them I could not tell what they were and I certainly wasn't expecting anything other than prawns and omelette. As stated on the menu. When the container was sitting on the counter they picked around and showed me a prawn at the bottom and a very thin yellow omelette, but about 3/4 was stir fried veg. They were unpleasant about the issue, refused to admit their mistakes, refused to issue a refund. They were ready to fight, not accepting that I was being reasonable. No people skills, poor hospitality skills and bad attitude. I will never go back and could not possibly recommend this restaurant if this is how they deal with...

I've wined and dined across the globe and it's uncanny how a local business on my doorstep has come through with one of the best value for money meals I've ever experienced. Due to time of night and on a Monday mind you, the wonderful lady at the counter catered for 2 Malaysian Chicken cuisines, a shared entree, rice and an extremely well paired bottle of Shiraz out of the world class McLaren region. The meals were ready in amazing time and wait for it...total value $75.

Upon taking the order she asked on a scale of 1 to 10 what rating of spice would we like? After talking me down from 9.5 to 7.5 I have to point out she nailed it.

As we walked out another competitor who also did Asian cuisine only a door or two up from this venue was packed and looked to be struggling to keep up with servicing the clientele. I said to my friend isn't that unjust that we were the only ones dining in and yet I would put my house on that we had a delicious meal accompanied with a fantastic wine and it was served in impressive time.

The moral to this review is don't judge a book...

Please dont go here. Food tasted alright but everything else was terrible especially the service. Was told every item we ordered was 2 $ more than stated if we dined in.Very small portions for the price, when asked for tap water was given only a glass full, my nearly 2 year old daughter was threatened by the lady not to make a mess otherwise she would be made to clean the dishes and we were asked afterwards if she understood what she was told. When we paid, we wanted the bill to be split between us but she declined the request as apparently the bank would charge her more and then she commented loudly for us as we left that the table was too messy. If you dont want people to dine in just say you only have take away. We are only customers and we do not know if you have had a bad day. We only wanted to end a wonderful day with a good meal with...
