Good day, I apologize in advance for my English since this is not my first language. Iâm not used to leaving reviews online but after yesterdayâs event I feel the need to share what happened. We were having an absolutely lovely night at Magnus yesterday but a couple of events left us speechless and sadly disappointed. I wouldnât generally even mention the nationality of my friend but just to put you in context, the friends I was with come from Australia, Germany, Argentina, India, and Italy. First thing which really annoyed us happened when our two friends â from Germany and India â were kissing and have been addressed as âthe black guy who got the white girlâ and afterwards our friend have been asked if she was okay, to which she answered that the guy in question was her boyfriend. We decided not to make a scene over it and let it go, but we felt the whole situation was absolutely disrespectful. The cherry on the top came when we were leaving the building: our friend has quite a few tattoos, a few of which on her chest. Right at the exit she got approached by a guy who staring at her breast tells her: âI wish I were your tattoosâ. The bouncer on shift apparently hasnât heard anything while the night manager (I donât know if she was the manager but was acting as one) told us: âdonât say anything and keep goingâ. I got particularly upset over the whole situation, and tried to explain the facts to the manager who, by coincidence, also had tattoos on her chest, so we presumed she could emphasize with the whole situation (also, do you need to have the same tattoos to emphasize?). I gotta say she was trying to have a conversation with us, she was tired and wanted to go home, which I understand since we all work in hospo, but still, we didnât really feel she got the whole point of what happened and why we got so upset about it. This absolutely doesnât want to be a critic towards the venue itself nor the staff present, just an overall thought about how little humanity was involved yesterday. Iâm Argentinian, I come from a country where, for example, weâre still fighting for women rights and I chose Australia because I feel comfortable and safe here. Iâm writing this because I really canât get into my head how the color of my skin or my tattoos can generate so much discrimination and such a lack of empathy can still be something normal around us. I know itâs not always easy to emphasize which such situations but I think we should stop ignoring such events and start reacting to them because next time it could be your partner, your children or your friend, as it was in my case. From my point of view, in 2020, this is disappointing, frustrating and unacceptable. I hope you understand the whole point of this post, understand that the world is not going to change by itself but we are the ones who need to make...
Read moreMagnums Hotel is a lively and well-established bar that delivers a fun mix of entertainment, music, and drinks almost every day of the year â even on holidays â from 10:00 AM until 2:30 AM. Itâs a great place to unwind, especially if you enjoy open-air party vibes mixed with a touch of Aussie charm.
The layout is casual and social, with a smoking area in the front and non-smoking spaces in the back and sides, giving everyone a comfortable place to hang out. Most of the action is centred around the outdoor bar, where live music sets the mood. Itâs an energetic yet laid-back scene that keeps people coming back.
Inside, thereâs more to explore: a gaming area (casino-style), a nightclub, and even a private bar upstairs. They keep the events fresh with special activities like the Sunday silent disco with headphones â definitely a fun surprise. If you're up for a bit of casual fun, there are pool tables outside too.
While food isnât the main attraction, they do have special offerings like the "grill your own burger" experience every Saturday from 5 to 8 PM, which adds a nice touch.
Magnums also supports the Pink's charity project, which is cool to see, and they actively promote it. For locals, thereâs even an app you can download for exclusive deals â handy if youâre a regular and getting a membership.
Drink-wise, theyâve got a solid variety of beers and cocktails, available in schooners and pints. The service is self-serve, so youâll need to grab your own spot and head to the bar for drinks, but the staff is friendly and always willing to help if needed.
Security steps up around 8 PM with ID checks and photos for entry, which helps keep the vibe safe and comfortable for everyone.
Overall, Magnums is a great spot to enjoy music, drinks, and a lively crowd. Itâs not fancy â and it doesnât try to be â but it nails the fun and casual pub experience with just enough extras to keep things...
Read moreI visited Magnus a few years ago and had the best time. I saved very hard to return to Airlie / magnums only to be told (not asked) to leave half way through my third beer on account of being âto intoxicatedâ. I have managed bars/ nightclubs all around the world and the excepted protocol is to establish a conversation with a patron that security or staff may consider to be intoxicated and suggest perhaps a water for their next beverage, itâs respectful to the patron and negates animosity. None of these very basic steps were followed be security and if they had had taken 2 seconds to talk to me respectfully they would have also learned of my slight disability which may make me appear intoxicated. Unfortunately I was not allowed such rights and was told to leave with no reason. Lack of procedure from extremely heavy handed security obviously drew attention and as I left the venue I was followed by 3 very intoxicated individuals (who had NOT been removed for being to inebriated ) who proceeded to follow me trying to instigate an altercation placing me in firm danger all because of the actions of said security and their inability to follow basic procedures thus placing me in a extremely dangerous situation. I returned to Magnus the following day and asked to speak with the manager Robyn to discuss my concern where she wrote down my concerns, took my number and said she would follow up with me. It had now been 3 weeks and I am yet to receive any contact. All these issues are extremely concerning and a complete failure in what should have been a very basic duty of care to any patron entering your establishment. If a response / apology is not forthcoming within the following days, legal action maybe sought. As a customer based establishment, all involved at said venue need to do a lot better, A LOT...
