Once they refurb the rooms this hotel will be much better for accommodation. The reno on the pub is absolutely charming and pays tribute to the rich heritage of the building. The neon signage and pastels around the accommodation are really beautiful and kitsch. But the rooms smell like bleach, are pretty sparse and the bathrooms are full of mould. Fine for a quick stop on the side of the highway. Food is OKAY. It's almost there for pub food. Not quite, but nearly. We had the loaded fries & Thai salad. Thai salad was a bit boring but fresh and tasty - just uncreative and inauthentic. Loaded fries were bland to the point of being almost inedible, needed some Mexican spices and jalapenos to lift the dish. Service throughout our stay was both charming and to the point. There were a few rusted on locals at the public bar gathered around the racing screens. They were the welcoming sort, not standoffish & probably good for a late night yarn if you're flying solo. There were some questionable characters staying in the rooms out the back, I guess probably due to the poor quality of the rooms. But maybe that's the charm of the place. Rooms definitely felt like an afterthought but the Pub seems well managed so they'll likely see some love in the not too distant future. Look forward to my next stop through on the run from Syd to Melbs. There is however ample parking and it's not far from the highway (but not too loud). Albury is definitely having a growth spurt. There seems to be more cute cafes and interesting new businesses every time I stop through.

Road trip to Melbourne halfway way stay at this place. I wish I could give this a high rating because the guys in the main bar are so cool a pleasure to talk and deal with. Unfortunately, the review is on the room, not the main bar. It's a little confusing where to go for check-in At first glance, the place gives a nice retro feel and look on the outside. But the below reason 1. the front door is coming off the hinge 2. the bathroom tap was forgotten to be properly installed or maintained. 3. the kitchen has an ANT problem 4. The main room light is burnt out 5. There is no fly screen in the bathroom window, so I can not open the window without flies paying us a visit. I was only staying for the night and wasn't bothered asking the reception. Hopefully, they have these fixed for the next guest. I would recommend a little renovation to be more pleasant to stay. The value is questionable for the 1 night stay, which was $179.20. 1st January, maybe peak season. I'm not sure if I will stay again, but I will definitely come back to try the food in the main Bistro and a few drinks.

Big dollar fit out and lots of staff does not equal good service. Twice the amount of staff than the average pub but the guest has to do all the work. You order on a QR code, collect your drinks from the bar and collect your food from the counter. They don't bring anything over, not even cutlery. When I asked where can I get some cutlery, the brunette behind the bar rolled her eyes and said 'it's literally behind the door'. Maybe spend a little more money on training your staff how to be polite. Food was average and a long wait for it considering they were almost empty. Burger didn't taste like much, lamb ribs were tough, gnocchi was chewy like a cheap supermarket one. Mac and cheese croquettes were ok. Overall, it wasn't a good experience.

My family and I had a terrible experience at the astor motel albury bistro. We were looking forward to trying out the bistro food, we ordered 3 plates of food and waited a long time, but noticed that over 10 plates of food were being served to customers that had ordered after us. We understand that dockets can be mixed up or misplaced, however, we noticed that our order docket was left hanging where they leave their orders and yet they served all the other customers first. We felt discriminated against perhaps because of our race, but I'm not sure, as we weren't really given an explanation for the long wait. We ended up asking for a refund as my 3 year old daughter was getting hungry and agitated. The chef just gave us an arrogant smirk as if he deliberately ignored our order. The supervisor did act unprofessionally at first, however after giving our refund, she did apologise later which we appreciated, as we had every right to be frustrated due to the poor service and communication, we understand her frustration as the staff as a whole could have done better dealing with the situation.

If we were simply given an explanation or an apology while we were waiting, we would have just left with more understanding. Instead we left feeling frustrated, hungry, disappointed, like last priority and discriminated against. It was disappointing to receive such poor service from the Bistro as the receptionist that organised our room gave us such good service, the Bistro service resulted in our whole experience being terrible and VERY DISAPPOINTING. I will never recommend the Astor motel Albury NSW to anyone, and will never return 😔.

Update: Forgot to update this review the day after it happened. When we checked out we went to see someone about what happened the evening before, we met a very nice lady at the bar, who gave us a genuine apology and a full refund for our stay. We had no complaints about our stay, it was just the bistro experience that was terrible, but she gave us a refund anyway and we left feeling so much better. Then on our way out to our car, the manager spotted us and also apologized as he saw our Facebook review about the evening before. He explained to us that they had young and new staff working that evening, and that the chef wasn't given our order docket by the wait staff. He then said to come back in the future and he'll take care of us at the bistro which we really appreciated. We felt so discriminated against the night before, but to receive an apology, a refund and an explanation we really appreciated and thought the managers dealt with it...

So I rated it 5/5 for the experience because check-in was fantastic. Easy, welcoming and no fuss (I did have the advantage of being able to check-in earlier so that may have been luck on my behalf, but it added to the experience). Housekeeping was also fantastic. Shoutout to Nora who also made me feel very welcome.||So the signage and spruced up exterior of the motel part is delightful and invokes a feeling of fun; however, the interior of the rooms are a bit tired (carpet etc.). Yes, as mentioned in some of the other reviews, the bathrooms have also aged. (My toilet was very low and I’m not even all that tall.) That said, my bathroom was very, very clean. For the age of the tiles I would have expected some cracks or mould, but it seemed to be well maintained. The shower had a standard shower head, but the water was nice and hot and didn’t take all that long to heat up. (Room had crockery/cutlery, extra blankets and ironing board and iron, a good amount of hangers, but oddly no hairdryer.)||You can hear a bit of noise between the rooms if your neighbours are a little noisy and some of the traffic noise (I was situated on the exit side), but honestly it wasn’t too much of an issue.||I’d say the money went into the bar/restaurant fit out which made it a very enjoyable place to dine/drink at. I had the Mac ‘n’ Cheese and the rump. Both were delicious although they unfortunately overcooked the rump (it was still tender, though). The restaurant had a great atmosphere. All the staff I encountered were polite and friendly.||Great value if you are staying with more than one person in a room. I was solo, so probably a little overpriced for the room given the condition (and probably compared to what else could be booked in the area), but given the service I received, the easy access to the restaurant/bar/pub, it balanced out in the end.||Great location being close to the airport and for those driving through. Not far from town if you have transport, but the weather was fantastic when I stayed so walking into town was fine.||I enjoyed my time and probably would stay again due to the hospitality (which seems to be half the battle these days. Have paid more for less.) and probably just for the fun feeling of the Astor. If all their rooms are ever renovated to match the outside, it’d be...

This is a review about a meal I have ordered at the eatery pub (club) Astor while on my way to Victoria.|My friend and I thought that stopping for a meal at what I thought was glamorous venue will do a job for us transients. The meal was the special “ lamb shoulder “ for a $22.00 looked like the quick eat and go meal, no fuss and not to save time before finishing a long trip from Sydney.|Waooo ! What a shock we got ?|Gary slivers of sliced what was supposed lamb ( slippery, since ridden ) and you couldn’t cut on the plate with porous cavities throughout and if you catch a piece of a lamb with a normal kitchen knife, you will struggle to tear a piece off!|Ate the vegetables, as I was hungry and left my friend to fend for the lamb slice kill.|It is the same story.|We thought we walk away and think of it as a gamble when you don’t know the venue!|The bartender (a young fellow) was very professional and came to clear the plates and he asked how the experience was?|He got the truth from myself, as I have told him that it was, no exagĂ©ration, the worst dinner or meat cut I have ever been served!|He apologised and we told him to take the comments to the chef!|He asked us if he can do something to make it up for the experience and we thought a simple pizza tomato and cheese will do, to walk away at least with a good outcome!|He came back later, saying that the chef, wouldn’t accommodate the special request and that he could offer something from the bar instead for us!|We declined his good offer and we highly recommend this young bartender, as he really takes pride in this establishment!|As to the manager or the chef, that he reported to, will get a “fail” mark from us and hope his time is very short at this club!|There are people that still care and would do anything to further the goals for this massive and beautifully set up Bar and Eatery!|Good...
