I had the most shocking, disgraceful, the most disrespectful treatment at this place in my life. I will never revisit nor recommend anyone among my friends and family to visit this place.
So, I visit this place on the 12th/10. I checked in and proceeded to speak to a male staff available. I was excited thinking I was about to try out a new place. The staff asked if I had check in and I said yes. I showed him a green tick on my phone screen and he said that's great thank you.
So I asked if I could see the menu or if there was any food available. In my mimd, I just needed to sit and have a meal with a drink and later go home. The staff replied, like what food. I said oh, like hot meals or a menu to choose from.
He replied yes, we do have sandwiches, but they are very expensive. (That was the very first shock & disrespectful statement I have ever heard a staff say to a customer). Anyway, I said oh, what do you mean your sandwiches are very expensive.?? How much are they?? I asked him while I was still in shock. He replied, they are$ 22.
I then asked him, is that what you call very expensive.?? Yes, he replied to me. I then told him, look sir, I think it's a bit disrespectful that you enforce your opinions to customers. To me that's not very expensive as you call it, besides, I have not asked anything about sandwiches nor did I ask their price. I simply requested to have a look at the menu or if you had any hot meals.
He then pointed at the smith's chips on top of the shelves and said. You could have these, I am just helping you get something cheaper. (That was mind blowing too. Who says that to a customer)
Again, sir I am not here seeking for opinion or looking for help from anyone. Simply tell me whether you have any hot meals or not. He replied yes the sandwiches upstairs are being made, but they are not good.
Because I had felt disrespected by expensive sandwiches slogan (which were$22), I decided in my mind, okay I will buy a sandwich even if I don't want it. So I said to him, can I please have one of those expensive sandwiches.?
He replied, ohh they are not worthy, too expensive and not good either. But there is McDonald's nearby. I am just trying to help you.( WOW WOW WOW).
I asked, how come you have food that is not good or not worthy as you are calling it.??
He couldn't answer that question. Following all that lengthy disrespectful and meaningless conversation, he finally remembered their policy. So he asked me, can I see your full vaccination certificate.? I said ohh, now you have a full vaccination policy.??
I told him that I do not have a vaccination certificate because I am still waiting on my second dose which I am booked in for.
He then said, sorry I can not serve you if you do not have a full vaccination certificate. Oh now it's not expensive sandwiches, it's not about them being not good or not being worthy sandwiches but now it's about vaccination certificate. Okay, that's interesting, I replied.
I politely ask what his name was. He hesitantly said something like I am "Daniel" He appeared to be hesitant to say what his name was, and I wondered who had made such a beautiful establishment and left it in the hands of such an incompetent employee.
I will never ever revisit this place in my life until I die. I will never recommend it to anyone from my family or friends and circles. Very rude staff, very unprofessional and disrespectful...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusted at the service here tonight 29/7/23. I arrived at the ox with 2 of my friends around 12:30-1am to be greeted by an ongoing fight between a customer and a bouncer who was admittedly annoyed about the situation. Despite what was going on my friend and I joined the queue to get inside while my other friend stood near the road out front. I scanned the QR code to sign in. I waited for the ongoing argument to end at which point the bouncer signing people in turned around and said that I had cut the line and said I was not allowed in. I did no such thing especially considering my friend and I were the only ones in the line at the time and we were in a group. He let my friend inside but not me, he also decided to not let my other friend inside who was out standing by the road at the time. I found this completely outrageous and asked to be let in several times as I am a regular customer and have been attending events at the ox for 6+ years now. The bouncers name I was told is “Roni”. He continued to not let various people in for made up reasons for 30 mins after I arrived. I spoke to a manager who later told me that the reason for us not being allowed in was because our licenses were expired, this was not true and we showed him our licenses to prove they were in date. At this point it was clear we weren’t going to be let in. I strongly believe this bouncer has no idea what he was doing and was angry from the previous fight that had occurred and decided to take his anger out on people having a good night and abuse his power as a bouncer to feel better about himself. This is completely unacceptable behaviour towards innocent people who were doing the right thing by standing in line just to get to this bouncer and be told “no go away”. I hope that the people who read this message will agree with my statement and that this bouncer is fired, he did nothing but piss people off and ruin everyone’s night. The ox has been a regular favourite spot for myself and friends to beable to have a beer and share good times. I recently lost a friend who had worked as a bouncer at the ox, if this is his replacement (no one could replace him) then this man is an insult to his memory and the ox for what it used to be. I will never be stepping foot in...
Read moreThis place has the reputation of being the after dark hangout for the extremely young and underage. It's common knowledge that it's a den of iniquity where copious amounts of illicit drugs change hands. In fact, as part of their effort to combat drug consumption on the premises, they even lock the toilets.
During daylight hours is a whole other story. The place is primarily empty - which equates to the lack of atmosphere. They do pour a good beer though, and the bar staff are very friendly. With 4 of the tap beers being just $5 a schooner, the prices are fairly competitive.
The major downside of The Ox is the extremely grotty level of cleanliness they present. I've never been to any other venue where you literally stick to the floor... and the God awful noise it makes when you lift your feet to walk and peel your shoes off the floor is sickening. You're almost guaranteed you'll leave this place with an uncontrollable urge to shower - and at the very least, you'll need to run your shoes through the washing machine.
When placing all the pubs in Bathurst in order of preference, this one sits squarely on the bottom...
